“Great value, charming stay”

The Upper deck was great value and excellent location to stay in Sheringham. In quiet street but only a 2min walk to town makes it ideal for friends, family and couples.

Was there for a long weekend and good base to explore. Accommodation was clean with some nice original features such as exposed beams. Kitchen has everything you need for a stay like this and living room very comfortable.

Had to stay a little while longer but the owner was happy to allow us some more time which I thought was very generous.

Will be coming back next year

“Don't bother”
Reviewed 20 August 2012 for a stay in August 2012

The Upper Deck in New Street, Sheringham, is a well laid out and good sized flat, but its finish is awful. It is nicely close to the centre of Sheringham, being right behind the main street. That is all the good I can find to say about it!
It did not help that it had not been cleaned when we got it at the start of our week’s holiday. There was dust and cobwebs everywhere, the kitchen sink and bin still had food remains in them and there was rubbish lying around the flat too. Some of the cob webs were clearly quite old, so this place does not have a good cleaner.
Some of the floors were in a dangerous state as the carpet grippers were all left exposed where the carpets had been removed in favour of bare floor boards in the bedroom door ways, and there were nails sticking up in the kitchen floor. After I complained to the agent, Keys, swiftly sent a man round to remove all the dangerous pointy things from the floor, and he came back later in the week to put the correct carpet edging strips in so that hazard has now been removed. It doesn’t say much about the inspection of the place before it was accepted for a holiday let though!
That just left the lumpy double bed with the countable springs, broken kitchen extractor fan and cracked kitchen sink as problems!
I don’t think I am that fussy, but this place has one tiny bin for the whole flat, a useless ancient oven, no oven gloves, and a bath room and kitchen floor that are really badly fitted.
We certainly won’t be renting it again.

Management Response

We are surprised that you did not find the apartment in the clean state it usually is, although the cleaner was booked as is usual before any stay. Both ourselves and the agents did find it strange however, that you did not raise the cleaning issue until the third day of your stay. Also, we personally cleaned the apartment 2 weeks prior to your arrival and there were no cobwebs present. You correctly state that work promptly took place to rectifiy the carpet gripper issue. We have rented the apartment for 2 years and never had any complaints regarding this, however we undertook the work to appease yourself and to allow you to feel safe in our apartment. Our agent checked the apartment before advertising and they were, and continue to be happy with the accomodation we provide as are our other guests. We do supply oven gloves, and have never had any complaints about the oven which works perfectly, nor have guests had issues with the bed. Finally, we do hope that a crack in the sink and a small rubbish bin did not spoil your stay in a comfortable apartment close to all amentities. Fortunately our other guests do not agree with your comments and continue to stay with us.
