Decent budget hotel

4.0 of 5 bubblesReviewed 14 Sept 2013
It is a villa type hotel with small but clean n well maintained rooms. The garden is though big enough but not well maintained. The staff was very polite n they actually know the real meaning of hospitality. The food was tasty and of good quality. Located in a quite n cozy area of matheran. I would strongly recommend if you have limited budget and don't want to spoil your holidays because of that constraint. Far better than the overpriced hotels having a lot of facilities, high price and still don't know how to treat guests.

I went to this place with my partner on August 10, 2013 and planned to stay till the 12th. This package came at a price of Rs. 5540. I booked this hotel online since I was apprehensive of not finding any accomodation due to weekend rush. I also thought that it was a bad idea to go there and look for accomodation. However, the hotel website is very deceptive because it has uploaded tiny photos (including one that has a staff member sitting on a swing!)

We started walking towards the hotel Woodlands with fingers crossed. We really loved the concept of a hotel in the middle of a jungle. It is secluded and very thrilling to walk to and fro (however one must be careful as we crossed ways with a snake!)

However, the rooms were a horror taking into account the money that we had spent.

1. Bed sheets were stained.
2. Blankets were worn out and had hair in it!
3. Corridors were always wet and unclean.
4. Rooms emanated an awful odor.
5. Toilets were unclean with cobwebs everywhere.

When I tried complaining and asking for another room, an old man came grumbling that all hotels are alike in Matheran. He had the audacity to lie and say that the room has been cleaned while I clearly saw dirt all over. Besides, the package included three meals a day. The meals were ordinary with no variety.

When we personally checked the other hotels, we were awestruck because they had amazing rooms (clean of course!) and came at surprisingly cheaper packages for weekend stays.

This hotel is more like a lodge, not worth more than Rs. 500 per night. And I am not even kidding.

Room tip: 1. If you are travelling on a weekday, do not reserve online. Reach Matheran, look at the hotels for yourself and decide. 2. However, if you wish to reserve online, I'd suggest Anand Ritz or Hotel Kumar Plaza.

We stay at woodland hotel in July 2013. It was last minute plan. Hardly got time to planned and review hotels.

Did not enjoyed my stay @ wood land hotel. It was not maintain properly. No cleanliness

Was rooms were average. Rooms were stinky.

But very good thing was food. thogh was not big spread, but homely taste. Food was not spicy.

Lots of monkies were around hotel which is usual sight in Matheran. Hotel kept two dogs for monkey to go away.

It was 10 mins away from market. very remote location. good place to stay and relax, but they should work on housekeeping which should be must and must.

We stayed at this place for 2 nights in April.
Its a beautiful resort away from the market area of matheran.
Its reasonably well maintained.
Its a real value for money. The package includes all meals. The food is very basic, but of good quality. The staff is very friendly, and will happily accommodate some additional requests.
There are lots of Monkeys, but the staff are around to keep them away during lunch and diner times. The lunch and dinner is served in the balconies outside the rooms.

The place is about 10 min walk from the market area, but that's a plus point if you want to have a peaceful holiday.

Toilets were clean, but there is no running hot water but the boys there will get you a bucket of hot water on request. (reminded me of "running hot water" from "Kahani" :-)

There is enough open space for the kids to run around. There are also some swings and slides for the kids to play, but they could be dirty due to Monkey poop.

All in all, a good place for a quick getaway.

Room tip: The staff offers to choose a room based on availability, so you can choose the one you like.

We stayed at this place during summer of last year (2012). We booked 2 rooms for 12K for 2 nights. It seemed a lot to pay at the time but it was worth it. The deal of course includes all meals and tea/coffee. But recently we again contacted them and the rates were hiked quite a bit. So looking back now it seems like a deal.

Room is not very well appointed. It looks old and jaded. Bedsheets could be cleaner. They did have a tv but which did not give a very clear picture but that is fine since we did not really find any time to watch tv. The bathrooms are just ok. There may be some leakages etc but nothing you cant live with.

The food was awesome. Less oil and spices and looked home cooked. There was buttermilk and sweet for lunch.

Really liked their in-house library. Got a book from there and kept myself busy.

Nice clean place but not the best at the price.

Room tip: Ask for a renovated room.
