First the positive points:
1) Hassle free check in and good staff
2) Very good Assamese cuisine

Points on which the hotel should seriously look into to compete with other hotels:
1) Rooms really need a makeover. Damp walls are eye sores.
2) Showers are all back dated and do not work properly.

This is a very good hotel with most of the facilities such as in-house restaurants, gift shop, conference rooms etc. One can try the ethnic food of Assam also in one of the restaurants. There are two temples next to the hotel.

I was living in Guwahati when Hotel Gateway Grandeur had first opened its doors and I remember dining at the restaurant Florentine quite often... Having relocated to Bangalore eight years back, this was my first stay at a hotel in Guwahati and because of the location and the familiarity, I had chosen HGG... but unfortunately I encountered many loopholes...

Firstly, on the second day of my stay, I returned to find that the room door had been left open, probably by the Housekeeping Staff after the routine cleaning up... On informing the Staff, the response that I received was, “Have you lost something?”.
The fact that it was a security hazard had completely been overlooked and there was no apology from the management which was the least that I had expected...

While entering the hotel one evening, our vehicle was made to wait for quite a while and I was horrified to see the security/valet person guiding guests making their exit to take a right turn on a one way lane allowing only a left turn.... a complete breach in traffic rules, must say and extremely irresponsible attitude...

The rooms are reasonably spacious but could do with a facelift...

The Front Desk was very poorly managed because at most times it appeared to be short-staffed with only one person handling the check in and checkout... I was disappointed when despite a wait of a good quarter of an hour the lady at the reception could not make eye contact, let alone apologise for keeping me waiting... Billing seemed to take ages despite my prior information about checkout...

The plus point is the inclusion of the traditional Assamese ‘Jolpaan’ comprising Komol saaul-Seera-Aakhoi and Doi-Cream-Gurr along with Tekeli Pithaa, Paani-Pithaa and Paati-septa(Stuffed with sweetened coconut and sesame seeds)Pithaa... The fresh tender coconut water was a welcome change to canned/tetra-pack juices...

I hope the management will take this as constructive criticism and make amends toward acquiring better reviews...

Rooms are big but the stains are very visible namely tea stains on walls, bed sheets were not clean and cushions were very untidy. The other facilities were great.Excellent gym and swimming pool.Food is excellent even the spa service is worth paying. The attitude of the staff needs to be taken care of.
