One of my favorite spots to take out-of-town visitors (or to buy groceries). For visitors, make sure you check out the view from the balcony over the market while you drink a cup of coffee from City Roast (I suggest you also get a crepe from the next stall while you are at it). Lots of local bakers in here if you are looking to pick up a treat. I also love the cheese selection from Mediterranean Imported Foods (NW corner of building). Try the tomatoes in Italian dressing (I don't know what they are actually called, but they'll know what you're talking about if you say this). You could also pick up some bread and cheese and do a picnic in the plaza on the corner of 25th and Lorain in the nicer months.

The West Side Market is a true gem. The architecture is impressive, the food booths are great, offering all kinds of things that you wouldn't find in a typical grocery. The experience is true old world urban. Bakery, fresh meats, produce, fish, and lots of other long time vendors offer a plethora of very tempting foods. Just walking around and taking in the atmosphere is worth the trip. If you can take the RTA Red line train to avoid parking hassles and to save money. Station is literally across the street.

we visited on a holiday weekend so we expected it to be busy. still, we were able to find parking and we weren't getting squashed by people once inside. you get everything from fresh produce and meats here to scrumptious desserts. majority of the goods are very reasonably priced. great place to have lunch with the family.

You can find whatever you want in this place from any culture, nation, or place. Thousands of different things to look at and enjoy. We would buy 75 pounds of tomatoes for soup and they were always good. Don't miss this one.
