Quaint bnb with a difference

5.0 of 5 bubblesReviewed 3 Aug 2020via mobile
Wanting to visit Peterborough train museum and wanted something different to stay in and came across this jem just on the outskirts of town and close to steamtown museum. A bnb where you stay in 1 of 2 historic rail carriages. Inexpensive for such history but very well appointed inside and well thought out. Lots of provisions offered in room with continental breakfast provided each day of your stay all ready in the room. Bed was so comfortable with lovely furniture inside to make your stay as homely as it can be. Set on a large property up a short dirt drive the property is set up with very friendly staff. We stayed in the Green and yellow carriage which I was hoping for. More because of the colour. Surrounds were almost defly quiet. With a few street lights seen in the distance. The perfect holiday stay for anyone wanting more for their stay and something different to share to all.

My husband & l stayed for 2 nights & what a very appropriate place to stay when you are visiting a railway town. We found our room very comfortable & well fitted out. A railway carriage divided into 2 units, only a few minutes drive from the main Rd, but peacefully quiet for a good nights sleep. Breakfast provisions were in the room, which was ample for breakfast each morning. The first night we enjoyed sitting outside having a wine on the deck & watching the sunset.
On our second morning l was up bright & early watching the sunrise & l wasn't disappointed. Our hosts were very friendly & welcoming. I would highly recommend a stay at Off the Rails if you are visiting Peterborough.

Spent a night in the carriage, what a great experience in the country. Well fitted out for your requirements. Very comfortable with out all the hitek back to country life. Fabulous setting on a farm close to Peterborough. The morning was minus 1 frost it was beautiful, reminding us of years gone by in country living. Can highly recommend if you want country living experience. We will be back for a longer stay. 🙏👍

We'd been recommended to this place by our son, and we're so glad we took it up. The accommodation was situated just a 20 minute walk from Peterborough centre, but it seems as though we were miles from anywhere it was so quiet and peaceful.
Our converted railway carriage was beautifully appointed with obvious care taken with the fittings and equipment. There were lovely touches like a bowl of lollies and chocolate set out for us and reading material that was not just interesting but very relevant to our surrounds: for example, a book of anecdotes about train travel in Australia in years gone by.
A do it yourself light breakfast, along with different teas and plunger coffee was supplied, along with some very basic cooking equipment.
The carriage was surprisingly spacious and warm and the free sunset and sunrise views were an added bonus.
I heartily recommend Off the Rails to anyone who wants a quiet, comfortable escape.

We thoroughly enjoyed the stay in the rail carraige.
The host was most welcoming and helpful and allowed me to fly my drone with hesitation. We were also allowed to take photos around the house with no restrictions.
We had a great time there. Thanks Antoinette.

Room tip: one of the carriages has extra beds if you need
