We did a half-day birdwatching tour with Doug Herrington around the Port Douglas area. This was our first time in tropical north queensland and, as amateur bird lovers, we just wanted to see as many birds as possible.

Doug did not disappoint - he clearly lives and breathes birds in the area everyday and took us to a huge number of great bird watching sites - some classic and some off the beaten track. Doug himself was great to spend the morning with and we only wish we had had more time. Highly recommend if you want to see (and/or photograph) the birds in the area (one highlight being the pictured scarlet honeyeater).

I went on a private 1 day bird watching tour in the Port Douglas/Mt Lewis/Julatten area with Doug Herrington. I saw a great diversity of birds, many for the first time. Most were close enough for good photography.
Doug was an excellent knowledgeable guide who knew exactly where to go to find an array of endemic birds. We saw, and got excellent photos, of golden bowerbird, scarlet honeyeater, yellow robin, yellow honeyeater, northern fantail, and even the eclectic parrots that are now breeding in Port Douglas. Many others too.
Doug was affable and light hearted, making the day easy and fun.

amazing day spent with Doug. Saw nearly 80 different birds for the day. Dough's knowledge of the birds and the places to find different birds made for a great day. His patience while we took photos really helped as well. His ability to know which birds were in which area and then to be able to call the birds helped to make it a memorable day. Would highly recommend spending a day with Doug if you want to see lots of different birds.
