The black stump is not really the black stump as the original was burnt out. They have a replacement but it isn't the same.
Wouldn't go out of my way to find it.

Located in a side street this display provides an informative history of surveying in the area and the origin of the black stump.
Could easily miss this landmark as we drove past several times.
Worth a stop if in town to read the details, wouldn't go out of my way to inspect.

Quote directly from the information centre pamphlet "The site of a stump used for surveying towns in Queensland in 1888. The original transit which was used on the stump is now on display at Ram Park."

This is the spot where the saying "Anything west of here is beyond the Black Stump" originated.
