Disappointing! The water is stagnant with oily scum from sunscreen. No rain for weeks! Rubbish around, bush trampled; toilet paper, tampons and human faeces seen. And the people drive like lunatics on the country road leading to this place. Lock the gate someone and let this beautiful place recover!!
Climbed Mount Walsh in a group of 4 on Sunday and felt like a proper mountain goat. All four of us agreed the rock climbing part was easier and more fun than walking at an incline. It took us 65 minutes to get to the top/base section, and 85 minutes overall to the very top cliff. The climb down is quite a challenge, all four of us slipped or fell at some point. There are undercover picnic tables at the bottom of the mountain, which we utilised to eat our packed lunch. Bruises, splinters and all I would recommend Mount Walsh to anyone looking to improve on their fitness or complete a challenge. The view from the top is unreal :)
Did the hike/climb to the top with my daughter and 10yr old grandaughter. Yes it is quite tough going but as long as you follow the track and lookout for the painted arrows and pink tape at the top section it is quite doable. The views are truly spectacular and the rocks and plants on top were amazing. Spend time exploring at the top for different views. My grandaughter did it with ease but you do need to take care once you start climbing the rocky section near the top.
My wife and i decided to climb Mt Walsh last weekend. What an experience. Firstly, you do need to be fairly fit as it is not an easy climb. The first 70% of the climb is a narrow track consisting of loose rocks and dirt and pretty dam good views. The last 30% is at best a free climb to the top, but once you are up there the views are just spectacular. It is a hard slog but so very worth it. At the time i hated my wife for making me do it but now i am so glad we did....haha
Such a wonderful experience. Highly recommend this. You need to be fairly fit and as you climb higher there are many parts where you'll be climbing rugged terrain. Even if you can't get past this part the views are incredible the whole way up. So thankful to whoever has left ribbons on trees helping me to stick to the path. There are also arrows on some of the rocks. Wearing gloves could help, closed in shoes a must. Getting there isn't very well signed so be prepared to know where you're going before you leave.
We as a family have done the Mt Walsh climb, it is a hard slog and totally worth it. The views are amazing and the workout in parts strenuous.
We decided to flip to the other side an visit Utopia Falls.......what a hidden gem.
The trip in isn't well sign posted so make sure you do your research as you could miss the main turn off in.
You can get there by normal vehicle however after rain 4wd recommended.
There is a short walk to get to the pools (20min) but a fairly manageable one. Must wear shoes, thongs won't cut it.
It is a natural path so recommend anything you bring in, you must carry.
On arrival, there isn't a great deal of shade so maybe think ahead and take a sheet to string between trees as once the sun is over you it's a stinker.
The pools are amazing, deep enough for the rock face jumping and beautiful for the swim.
Definitely better after rain as after long dry spells water can be a little stagnant.
We arrived at 830am and left at 1130am. Could easily have stayed the day but had other commitments, but walking back in the middle of the day heat was a bit more challenging.
Not recommended for people with mobility issues as path is natural and uneven include climbing over a little rock wall.
