We had a lovely room, spacious and very clean. Nice linen robes and toiletries. A full mini bar. Towels for the pool and extras if you needed. A nice spot in the lobby to read a free paper and free wine tastings. We were given an upgrade as a guest needed a ground floor room. It was quiet and we made use of the indoor sauna spa and pool. The staff were very good and helpful. The rate was excellent value and we stayed an extra night. We used the bar the bistro and the restaurant which meant we could drink and not drive. We would return here again and recommend it to friends and family.

Booked through red balloon and was quite expensive but did include dinner.
Room was standard. Had wine tasting and light lunch downstairs which was lovely
Dinner was just dreadful - fillet steak was microwaved and tastelesss - menu stated came with rosemary potatoes and asparagus and broccoli with a Red jus sauce. Nothing like it - sauce was disgusting and asparagus was only the woody pieces. Husband had entree of tiger prawns with peanut satay - do not bother ordering - he questioned it and was told sauce was in the salad leaves??? Dessert was sticky date pudding - cake in a grey sauce not a date to be seen - worst meal ever and very expensive would not recommend

We stayed here for one night in the middle of the week late May, I had booked ahead and got an excellent room rate.

It was cold outside but the fireplace in the reception area made it immediately warm and inviting as soon as we walked through the front door.

Our room was the standard room and although I was initially a little disappointed it didn't open onto the balcony with the outlook over the garden, it was still nice.
We enjoyed having a drink in a sitting area in front of another fireplace.

Breakfast was ordinary, it was the traditional buffet style. All the usuals, eggs, bacon, tomatoes etc had been cooked earlier and were being kept warm.
Given is was so quiet, there was one other couple at breakfast and as we left another person entered, it would have been so much better if breakfast had been made to order. Guests would enjoy a better breakfast experience and I imagine the venue would save money as it appeared that a lot of food was going to be thrown out that morning.

Overall I felt our stay was slightly better than average.
The location and charm of the building are definite positives but the staff were largely disinterested in us and we should have had breakfast somewhere else, there are much better options close by.

We stayed here earlier this year and just needed a last minute, quiet night away/time out. I managed to find a last minute room which was smaller than we previously experienced. However, it was still as well equipped, clean and comfortable as the last visit. This is a beautiful resort in a lovely part of the north west country and I am sure we will be back again as we love the beautiful gardens and authentic furniture. There is also the charm of sitting by the fireplace to enjoy a drink after dinner. Staff are mostly very friendly and helpful. Only problem was the spa not working that day.

Room Tip: Rooms at the back have good views but may be a little noisy . Some traffic noise if staying in a front room. Not as bad as some other stays.
