My wife and I drove to this place on a Tuesday. We were unaware that it is closed on Tuesdays and Wednesdays.

Anyway, we walked around the well maintained gardens and had a look at the architecture of the beautiful Convent from the outside. It was a pleasant visit nevertheless.

We drove on to the Botanic Gardens. On our next trip to Daylesford, we will visit this place on a Thursday.

Thank you Global Traveller. So glad you enjoyed our beautiful building from the outside and our garden on a day we were closed. I hope you found your way to the top of the hill and enjoyed the view of the Central Highlands. Please visit again. More great architecture inside... as well as art & history... And a pretty good cafe!!!

My Uncle and I met for brunch here and then spent hours enjoying the stunning grounds, the art gallery and exploring areas of this beautiful old building. Every corner has something that will capture your attention.

The art gallery was a nominal fee to enter but you literally will spend ages here. There is car parking on the grounds and outside the walls.

In January 1890 the building (prior to this it was a private home) was transferred to the Catholic Church as a Presbytery for the Daylesford priests. The priests considered it ‘too uncomfortable’ and a new presbytery was constructed elsewhere. In 1891 the building was passed over to the Presentation sisters of Melbourne for use as a convent. And so began the life of The Holy Cross Convent, Daylesford.

I recommend allowing yourself plenty of time here, you will not be in and out in less than a couple of hours. If you stop to eat... longer.

Interesting Gallery in a building once used as a Convent. Has a cafe and bar and admission is very reasonable. Has a good outlook from the old Bell Tower (the Bell has disappeared).

After finally being allowed to travel, discovered the convent in Daylesford. I’m not religious but it was heavenly. We had sweet corn fritters and French toast for breakfast both very delicious. Pleasant and informative staff. Noticed they do high tea, looked amazing, next visit already planned…
