Thank you! So glad you enjoyed your experience. We love hosting High Teas... and especially love it when our guests LOVE IT! Such positive feedback makes us all super proud of "our product" ( and service!! )
My wife and I drove to this place on a Tuesday. We were unaware that it is closed on Tuesdays and Wednesdays.
Anyway, we walked around the well maintained gardens and had a look at the architecture of the beautiful Convent from the outside. It was a pleasant visit nevertheless.
We drove on to the Botanic Gardens. On our next trip to Daylesford, we will visit this place on a Thursday.
Thank you Global Traveller. So glad you enjoyed our beautiful building from the outside and our garden on a day we were closed. I hope you found your way to the top of the hill and enjoyed the view of the Central Highlands. Please visit again. More great architecture inside... as well as art & history... And a pretty good cafe!!!
My Uncle and I met for brunch here and then spent hours enjoying the stunning grounds, the art gallery and exploring areas of this beautiful old building. Every corner has something that will capture your attention.
The art gallery was a nominal fee to enter but you literally will spend ages here. There is car parking on the grounds and outside the walls.
In January 1890 the building (prior to this it was a private home) was transferred to the Catholic Church as a Presbytery for the Daylesford priests. The priests considered it ‘too uncomfortable’ and a new presbytery was constructed elsewhere. In 1891 the building was passed over to the Presentation sisters of Melbourne for use as a convent. And so began the life of The Holy Cross Convent, Daylesford.
I recommend allowing yourself plenty of time here, you will not be in and out in less than a couple of hours. If you stop to eat... longer.
So glad to read that you & your Uncle found every nook & cranny here at The Convent. You are right - there is something special at every turn. Thank you for the wonderful review and sharing your day of discovery. We love our history and what we are able to share with the public. Hope to see you again.
Interesting Gallery in a building once used as a Convent. Has a cafe and bar and admission is very reasonable. Has a good outlook from the old Bell Tower (the Bell has disappeared).
Thank you for taking the time to review our gallery. As you would have discovered, it is so much more that just a gallery! So glad you also enjoyed the history, architecture, food... and of course the wonderful views! Hope to see you again.
After finally being allowed to travel, discovered the convent in Daylesford. I’m not religious but it was heavenly. We had sweet corn fritters and French toast for breakfast both very delicious. Pleasant and informative staff. Noticed they do high tea, looked amazing, next visit already planned…
Love that your visit was "heavenly"... even in our Bad Habits Cafe!! hehe
The Corn Fritters have become an instant favourite for many... glad you enjoyed them too.
The High Teas are amazing... please visit again and enjoy a Convent High Tea. Until then.
What a stunning & unique place to visit! My friends & I absolutely loved seeing this beautiful old convent on the weekend. So much history & a fab little cafe too. Yummiest scones ever! Super friendly staff too. Lovely gardens. Will definitely be back next time we are in Daylesford
Thank you!! We are now feeling the love you experienced on your visit. Reading your review has already put an extra bounce in our step... it is great when our customers enjoy the full Convent experiences... love it... and share it! Thank you once again.
