Just home from a terrific break at Duck Cottage . It is really lovely cottage clean , well appointed and in a perfect location . The market place is a stones throw away with everything needed for a self catering holiday . Thirsk is the perfect spot for exploring North Yorkshire and only 18 minutes by train to York ( much easier than driving and parking ) . We even had a night at the races and had a great time . One tiny point is there is no Wi-Fi or radio . We took our iPod / iPhone and Bluetooth speaker but as there was no wi-Fi or even a 3G signal we had no means of using this . There are radio stations on the TV . Overall , fantastic accommodation , great attention to detail ( coordinating decor and soft furnishings) and spotlessly clean . I would highly recommend this cottage to anyone looking for first class accommodation in a lovely little market town . We hope to return next June
We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Duck Cottage. It's newly renovated, cozy and clean. It was easy to find and well located in a cute alley, lined with flower pots. Literally less than two minutes walk from the middle of Thirsk - grocery stores, coffee shops, fish & chips shop, a great indie book shop.
Great hot water and strong water pressure in the shower, beds were very comfortable.

We had a fantastic stay at Duck Cottage. The rooms are cosy and well presented, with all you need to have a relaxing stay. The cottage is close to Thirsk and set beautifully next to the river, where the ducks wander. With the cottage being so ideally located, there is lots to do. We pottered around and explored the local surroundings, but would love to stay again and go further as there are lots of great trip suggestions from the owners. Thirsk is a lovely place to visit and Duck Cottage a great place to stay.
Stayed at Duck Cottage for three nights and wished it could have been longer.
The decor is beautiful and clearly a lot of thought has gone into the renovation.
Cottage is very central for all of Thirsk's amenities. However, it is also tucked away and very quiet.
We found it to be very cosy and relaxing.
In Thirsk itself we enjoyed the cafe in the bookshop, the chip shop and the James Herriot Centre was worth a visit. We loved feeding the ducks, too and walking along the beck.
Duck Cottage is absolutely delightful. We have friends and family in Darlington and York so it is perfectly placed for us so we certainly intend to stay again.
What a wonderful little gem tucked away in the lovely market town of thirsk. This cottage has been renovated to a high standard. It is comfortable, beautifully furnished and has lovely hot water. The view from the main bedroom and the sitting room shows the river with the ducks, at the time we stayed, all somersaulting down with the fast current. It is in a great location - tucked away down a cobbled alley just off the main square in thirsk. It has its own parking place with easy access out to the rest of the beautiful North Yorkshire countryside.
