“Great little hideaway close to the lakes!”
Reviewed 19 March 2015 for a stay in March 2015

Fantastically stocked kitchen, with all the implements you can hope to have. great coal fire. Sadly the carpets up the stairs and in bedrooms were a bit grotty and could have done with a deep clean. Admittedly it is hard keeping things clean out in the countryside, surrounded by farmland! My children had fun admiring the sheep and lambs in the field at the back. we even tried to show the way out to a lamb who had strayed into another back yard, but it would not budge. I think eventually his mummy or a human being must have helped him out! Thank you for books and DVDs left on the dresser, they were really appreciated.

Thank you for your kind comments and we agree about the carpets. We'll be getting them cleaned as soon as we can.
Also, we have redecorated, fitted black out curtains and replaced the fridge freezer and the hoover over Easter 2015.

“A lovely little place to stay”
Reviewed 29 November 2014 for a stay in October 2014

We had 7 very happy nights in Phinlain Cottage. As previously mentioned in other reviews, Sean left plenty of instructions for our stay. It's always nice to be left to get on with your holiday but know that you can approach the owner if you need help, which was the impression we had. The cottage is tucked away in a lovely little village. The nearby pub looked very inviting but with two under 9's in tow, who were always tired after a fun-packed day, we didn't have a chance to visit, which was a shame. We made up for it by visiting the Hawkshead Brewery a couple of time; thoroughly recommend it, along with the bakery next door. The cottage proved to be a great base for getting out and about. We had a couple of rainy days so we tried out the Aquarium in nearby Newby Bridge, along with the karting and bowling in Barrow, all well worth a visit. Treetop Trek at Brockhole proved to be a big hit, as did the Climbing Centre and swimming pool in Kendal. There's so much to do and see in the South Lakes, not forgetting the fantastic walks and breath-taking scenery. All in all, we were very sad to leave Phinlain Cottage at the end of our stay and wouldn't hesitate to book another stay.

Thank you for such kind comments! We agree it's a great base for the area...and dare I say that it's one of the better locations if it rains? It never rains, of course;)
We hope to welcome you back in the future.

“A great little cottage”

Phinlain cottage is in a small, quiet village but was very easy to find. Its location was absolutely perfect for us as we were visiting the South Lakes Wild Animal Park, which was a mere 10 minute drive away, and Bowness-on-Windermere, also a relatively short journey.

The cottage itself is very nice and had everything we needed for our stay. Having a one year old meant we stayed in on an evening - we used the kitchen to make our dinners and watched one of the dvds - heating on, curled up on the sofa with hot food and a bottle of wine, perfect!!

Sean, the owner, was extremely helpful prior to our stay, replying promptly to all messages and, knowing we were arriving late on the first night, set up the cot for us.

All in all a great place to stay, brilliant value - I expect we'll be back!

“Lovely cottage in a handy location”
Reviewed 9 September 2014 for a stay in September 2014

Stayed at Phinlain cottage for a long weekend in September. Cottage is cosy, has a small but very well equipped kitchen (we easily cooked two dinners) and is in a great location for exploring the south lakes. Sean left very thorough instructions for our stay and there's a small selection of DVDs and books as well as a well stocked pile of information leaflets in the cottage when you arrive. Very short drive into Ulverston where there is a Tesco express (7-11 everyday) and a host of restaurants (though book on a Saturday night, it gets busy). Overall a great stay and would come back.
