“Lovely quiet holiday cottage”
Reviewed 16 April 2014 for a stay in April 2014

Loved our time at this lovely cottage- it was very warm and cosy and felt right at home. We enjoyed walking and visiting the local places including the waterfalls and wastwater lake. The weather was lovely and great for walking. Places to eat were about 10 minutes away and the local shop was at the top of the hill. We were not aware of not being able to leave our dog alone in the cottage which affected our plans slightly but he would have been quiet happy asleep in the warm bathroom in his bed. Maybe having an outside area or a wet room so the dog could be left a couple of hours on their own would be ideal. Overall it was a fantastic holiday and would definatly visit again xxx

“Quiet, well-appointed cottage with walks on your doorstep”

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at the Orchards Coach House. The cottage was well-equipped for cooking and relaxing (although do remember to bring your own towels! and mind your head on the low beams!). It was remarkably comfortable to sleep in, as well, and both myself and my partner had the best night's sleep we've had in years while we were there.

The highlight for both of us is the location, though. There are a number of walks that can be done from the cottage, meaning no driving somewhere or taking a bus and then trying to get home again in the evening. This convenience was fantastic, and it's even possible to tackle Scafell Pike on a long day walk from the cottage.

The local pub served good beer, although we didn't eat there. We also would have loved to ride L'aal Ratty, the railway, but it was shut for most of November and so we missed out on that. The village shop is reasonably well-stocked and just a five minute walk away, which was very convenient.

We really couldn't recommend the cottage enough - it's one of the nicest we've stayed in and we had a very enjoyable time there. The only slight criticism is that the website made it seem like we'd definitely have access to Wifi. In fact, access was patchy and only achievable on one of our devices (my partner's Samsung laptop). I think it would be more honest to say that there is no Wifi and then, if someone can connect, allow them to be pleasantly surprised!
