Lovely and warm on arrival, this is a well equipped cottage with Fridge and a freezer also washing machine, in fact everything you need is there for you the garden is perfect for the dogs to run around in , and I found the utility room very useful for the dogs bed.
There are such lovely views from the sitting room window, and the hosts
are charming people who came to say hello armed with fresh flowers and milk.
Easy 20 min walk down the lane into Cartmel .
I shall be visiting again, Loved it.

“Second visit, and wonderful again”
Reviewed 7 April 2017 for a stay in March 2017

I love this place! It's just a beautiful environment in which to spend a few days. On your own, with a partner or with friends.

The garden is fantastic. The view from the higher section is amazing.
The total darkness you experience there at night (and how much that improves your sleep).
The log fire. The way horses and even sheep regularly pass the living room window. The log fire.

I'd highly recommend a stay here. Peaceful, in an amazing setting, but warm and cosy and homely too.

I'll come back!

Thanks so much! We try to make our two cottages places we would like to stay ourselves, each with space to properly recharge batteries in comfort and peace. Response like this really makes it worthwhile.

“Amazing cottage”
Reviewed 7 August 2016 for a stay in July 2016

We stayed at Woodland Cottage for 6 nights, a family of four, with chilrend ages 7 and 11. It's a wonderful place, the cottage has everything needed and is just the right size for four people. There was great wifi connection, plus there were games and puzzles we played in the evenings. The fire place makes it extra cozy. The surroundings are beautiful, green countryside, sheep and cows, and right beyond the back yard there were horses grazing in the next door medow. The nearest village Cartmel is a short drive, or a nice long walk. John the owner was very friendly and gave us some advice as where to visit.
If we come back to England, most surely will stay there again!

Liked best: The surroundings, and the coziness
Liked least: The bed had two extra wooden poles pointing towards the ceiling connected to the end where the feet are, we kept bumping into them, and they were kind of strange....

“Lovely views an setting, cottage needs work.”

Woodland Cottage is in a lovely setting, with excellent walks. However the cottage is made to sound nicer than it actually is. The furniture is very old. The outside of the cottage needs painting and looks quite shabby. We could definitely hear some little feet running about in the roof space at night. The cottage needs a lot of work inside and out. I feel that it was overpriced. I didn't bother to revue when we got home because we decided that although we will come back to Cumbria, we will not stay at Woodland. But since you invited me to revue, I decided to put my thoughts on record. Sorry owners, but you really need to spend some money.

We always welcome feedback and we always take it on board. Some of Lea’s issues though seem to be down to personal preference. The sofas are not quite new, but were delivered in February 2015. I wouldn’t expect to replace them quite yet, we buy them from sustainable manufacturers who build properly to last (the last models, exactly the same, lasted 11 years and we now use them at home!). The furniture is old (brown, some oak, some ‘repro’) antique-ey furniture, but again, in good condition. Some people like antiques and some a more contemporary look. Woodland Cottage is marketed as a cottage and has a cottage style. The bed in the double bedroom was handmade from our own yew wood just 18 months ago, and has a brand new Hypnos mattress. Hypnos supply to the Queen and have several awards for sustainability. The other beds, in the twin bedroom, also have Hypnos mattresses new in the last couple of years. The outside of the cottage is pebbledashed, not painted, and again this was renewed by us and is in fine condition. There may be a little flaking of the paint on some of the fascia boards: that’s on my list and scheduled to repaint this autumn. The windows were repainted within the last three years at most.
The house is advertised as being in farmland. Unfortunately wild life will encroach, some guests have even mentioned deer in the garden and the adjoining field. Mice are wildlife too, and while every effort is made to control their entry, sometimes they do get in but you can be sure we make every effort to ensure they don’t stay long!
I’m sorry Lea didn’t tell me about this when she stayed in May. As it’s now July I can’t remember her. I always try to meet guests and make sure everything is alright. We live nearby and want to ensure guests’ experience is good, and better than we would expect for ourselves, and all feedback gets a response. Obviously I feel the cost is reasonable, but you don’t have to take my word for it: look at all the previous feedback and you will see others do too. Two sets of guests this year went out of their way to tell me they thought the description actually fell far short of reality.

Everything you need. Being picky, it would have been nice to have a compost bin. The owner was helpful. Our visit to Rampside was made perfect by the recommendation to visit the Bosun's Locker - great food at a reasonable price.

Thanks, Peter for this very kind feedback. I take the point on the compost bin, which is an important one. There is a compost heap in the garden, and there's a metal bucket outside one can use for both ash and compost, and I will add a suggestion about its use to our usual welcome letter.
