From the moment we arrived at the arched entrance we were enthralled. The drive to the castle is surrounded by trees and is in a woodland area. We parked in the car park it is a little way from the castle but we managed with our overnight luggage. The outside of the castle is picturesque and the castle grounds are lovely and well maintained and well worth a walk round . There is a quaint little church within the grounds. The inside of the castle was what we expected from a castle of that age .The room we stayed in was old and very worn but within the up keeping of a castle . Our favourite place within the castle was the wine cellar where we sat and relaxed whilst having a drink. We booked a table in the 1851 restaurant . The starter I chose was a little unusual combination and quite tasteless. The main course was excellent , fresh , nicely presented , full of flavour and the combination of the flavours was amazing . The desert was nicely presented and tasted divine. The breakfast was very good . We found all the staff very pleasant and helpful. Whilst we stayed here we participated in the Landrover Experience which takes place in the woodland area . This is well worth it we had the most enjoyable morning .
