“Excellent Stay and Better Than Expected”

We had a GREAT time! It was a big adventure and expedition! We arrived late at night because of flight issues and when we pulled up to the Villa after a 5+ hour drive, the caretaker(Kim Kong) had left the tiki torches burning out front for us so we could easily identify the place of the beach road and immediately came out to welcome us. The road from Cancun to Xcalak was paved all the way and then it was a gravely beach road from "town" to the Villa which took about a half hour. We were thoroughly pleased to enter our second floor unit and see how nice it was! When going to a new place for the first time you are always a bit tentative....no need here! The place had everything one would need and more. The next day as we looked out over the gulf from the balcony and saw the crystal clear turquoise water and the reef and beach etc we knew we were in the right place. It just got better from there. The snorkeling was fantastic! The views front and back were great with wonderful sunsets from the rooftop. There was a lot of sea grass this particular year but that didn't hinder our adventures or enjoyment at all. We used the kayaks every day. Pretty much had the beach and gulf to ourselves the entire time. Kim was around but not obtrusive, and a great resource for questions or help or whatever one needs, and also a great personality and great to talk too..... and have an adult beverage or two with! We also met a super nice younger couple who was in the beach-side unit with us we made fast friends with.

Now this is a very remote area and not for everyone, there are no hotels, no all inclusives, no day spas, no kids clubs, no 5 star restaurants, the neighboring beaches are not manicured and pristine and do have seaweed and unfortunately a fair amount of plastic trash washed ashore from who knows where, but if you are looking for a getaway without crowds, to play, fish, sun bath, kayak, snorkel, explore, beach comb and enjoy more of an old Caribbean adventure then this is it.

I suggest stocking up with food and booze in Tulum, but there are a few small grocery-ets in town and a fresh veggi and fruit truck comes by every couple days or so, otherwise your on your own. The beach road is behind this Villa and not in front as with some others along the road, and the road is not well traveled on at all and this Villa is near the north end with only one more Villa further north before the end of the road.

Also, the owner was very prompt in answering all our questions and very helpful. There were very few bothersome insects, no need for A/C(barely used the fans). It is solar powered and water is a resource not to be taken for granted and managed.

We are looking forward to returning as soon as we can!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

We stayed here for 5 days and loved the place. we stayed in the lower unit and enjoyed it immensely. Brent has thought of every thing you need for an enjoyable stay. the kitchen is well stocked with all the gadgets and pots and pan you could want. We especially enjoyed the good blender. The kayaks and snorkeling equipment all came in very handy. The reef here is incredible and well worth the swim to get t it. Kim who is care taking the place made us feel welcome from the moment we arrived. Come well stocked though as the shopping in Xcalak is limited.

Kim, the caretaker, welcomed us, was open and available to us, and was great to have around to chat with. We loved the simplicity of living, being off the grid (except for Wi-Fi which had a great connection), the access to kayaks and snorkeling the reef right off of our porch, the gentle sway of the hammocks as we wiled away the hours reading and watching the amazing cloud formations. The beach combing was remarkable for conches, crabs, and shells galore. We enjoyed exploration with XTC Dive Center just down the road. Our groceries made it easily from Tulum to the refrigerator, and we chose to eat in cooking on the stove burners (no oven). It was the peace, quiet, beauty and downtime much needed by us all!

Liked best: location, simplicity, the caretaker
Liked least: difficult to find at first as we took a right on the beach road (had to make a guess), and practically drove to Belize! Bed was acceptable but not really comfortable. And the place is definately more for 3 than 4, because the couch doesn't work well
