“Great out of the way place to enjoy the Mahahual area”

We stayed a week here and used this house to visit Mahahual and the area around. The house is very nice and has all amenities to cook, relax or even throw a party. Air conditioners, wifi, coffee maker and the like all work so the place is really plug and play. The garden, front and back, and patio in the rear, are lovely and the choice places to enjoy the outside. Read Stewart's book about things to do in the area. We went out with Huacho snorkeling and had a great day. His suggestions about where to eat were very helpful as well. We had a great day at Xcalak, the snorkeling there was fantastic. For birders, we saw some very nice birds at the far end of the subdivision near the waterpark and north all the way to the Biosphere reserve. The road in the Biospehere reserve is terrible so be warned.

Liked best: The fact we were in a residential area of town and not the hotel strip.

“Great getaway close to the sea!”
Reviewed 22 July 2015 for a stay in July 2015

We just returned from spending a week at the Caribbean Casita and we loved it! We are looking to purchase property in the same neighborhood, so it was great to really see how it felt to "live" there! The casita was very clean and the A/C worked great. So nice after spending a long day at the beach. The outside kitchen was really neat too! We cooked breakfast every day, and had plenty of snacks and refreshments in the fridge inside. Bring bug spray however! As with everywhere, the mosquitos are pretty thick! You will see big bugs, lizards, and frogs here, just like everywhere else in Mexico. I personally loved the frogs and lizards...the bugs, not so much. The bathroom was big enough for us, and the unique faucet was a fun touch. There isn't a TV, but since there was wi-fi we could watch via our iPad if we really felt the urge...which we normally didn't. It was too relaxing to ruin it with TV! There is a great taco/quesadilla place right down the block, and the mini super on the corner carried a lot of food and necessities (soap, bug spray, snacks, beer, ice, etc.) so if you forgot something it's not a big deal. The walk to the beach was nice and quick, maybe 10-15 minutes max.

As long as you understand this is truly a casita located in the local town and not a beachfront resort, you won't be disappointed! We would love to visit again!

Thank you for a very nice review and staying with us. We are so happy that you found our casita comfortable and enjoyed the outdoor palapa. We truly enjoy our outdoor living area. Living in the "Casitas" truly does give a guest a sense of living in Mexico. The people are wonderful and as you said you can find almost anything you need at the local shops. The area has many wonderful places to eat and enjoy the local entertainment. We would love to have you visit us again.

“Most beautiful casita in Mahahual only minutes from the most beautiful beach on the Mayan Caribbean.”
Reviewed 10 March 2015 for a stay in February 2015

3rd time renter and each time many more improvements have been made. The garden, front and back, are exceptional and well maintained, with fruit in season for the picking. Beautiful and varied birds flock to these gardens Would consider this casita now fully complete with great local caretaker and concierge.
The outside kitchen under a huge palapas covered roof is very special and the 6 burner, full oven propane gas stove was well used.
The small local community is very safe and most friendly with everything needed for a stay in walking or biking distance. The tourist portion of the town, which welcomes cruise ships during the week has very special dining and shopping facilities. This is only a 10 minute walk from the casita along a well kept walkway with the most beautiful beach. Even though this area has many tourists on cruise ship days, there is no heavy pressure to buy from local merchant sellers. However the many crafts available are well priced and well done.

We loved the snorkeling, the restaurants, the weather, the beaches and of course the cervezas and margaritas. We'll be back.

“Glorious little haven of peace, beauty, and comfort.”
Reviewed 6 March 2015 for a stay in February 2015

Lovely little casita to rest your weary bones in when you come back from your day about town. Perfect dining area/kitchen under the shady palapa (grass roof) to prepare your meals in and eat while listening to the trickeling water in the fountain and the birds in the garden, pick some bananas for breakfast from your very own trees, or swing in the hammock while reading your novel.
Mahahual is a great place for your holiday with all kinds of shops, restaurants, beaches, and activities. The casita is conveniently located near many little grocery stores and is only a quick 10-15 minute walk to the beach (all flat land, no hill climbing) and the Malecon (seaside boardwalk).
You can get a good feel for life in real Mexico while exploring the area on foot, talking to your neighbours, and shopping for your daily needs. All in all this was a great place to experience Mexico in. Glad to have spent some time here.

“Snorkeling Heaven”
Reviewed 19 February 2015 for a stay in January 2015

My wife and I had the great pleasure of staying in this tidy and charming little casita in Mahahual, Mexico. It is on a residential street in the new part of town. Most of our neighbours were Mexican, so we immediately felt immersed in the local culture.
How lovely to sit outside to eat breakfast each morning in a backyard with all manner of tropical plants and trees (sharing it with geckos, kiskadees and local butterflies). Living in such a casita allowed us to cook our own meals and the experience of shopping locally for foodstuffs was a rewarding part of our holiday and gave us a great chance to practice our Spanish.
From the casita it is about a fifteen minute walk to the beach and some of best easily accessible snorkeling you will find anywhere. At the north end of town, the reef is only about a hundred metres from the shore, and the water shallow most of the way. My wife and I went snorkeling every day during our eleven days stay. We saw pufferfish, rays, cuttlefish, lionfish, all manner of snappers, grunts and angelfish. Every day we saw something new.
The local snorkeling is very, very good, but even better is to be had not far south of town and truly outstanding snorkeling in Xcalak, about 50 minutes south by car.
I would recommend this casita very highly to any couple or small group wanting to experience authentic small town Mexico and especially if one is fond of snorkeling.
