Spur of the moment trip to one of my favorite retreats! Secluded, secure and a pure slice of heaven. The only people we saw while relaxing underneath the palapas and palms were fisherman with spear guns catching our fresh lobster and fish for the evening meals. The sound of the ocean and view of the stars is nothing short of amazing. I'd liken it to being ship wrecked on the edge of the world at a five star resort with a group of friends!! Rooms are beautifully decorated, very clean, all have private baths/balconies/safes, free wifi, fully stocked gourmet kitchen, great service by the home's care taker Juan and incredible views from any where you are in the house. As an example, we arrived after dark with an SUV loaded down with supplies/luggage and while we relaxed, Juan unloaded the entire car for us! Also, Juan's wife Zynita is a licensed massage therapist and gives excellent massages on property. So good in fact, that all the girls on our trip increased our time from one to two hours. I'll take the sound of the ocean any day over spa music! Many thanks to the folks at Taj Majahual!!

Room Tip: If you want the maximum amount of privacy, I would recommend the Soultin Suite, as this includes kitchen, living room and huge master bath.

We stayed for a week in March 2014 with two other couples. It's a beautiful place where you can all share in the living spaces, but also have the privacy of your own bedrooms & bathrooms. The caretaker, Dave, was terrific & set us up with kayaks to use on the private beach which he kept clean. No neighbors for about a mile down the beach & the beach was full of garbage between us & the neighbors because of the way ocean current works in that area. The beautiful village of Mahahual is about 30 minutes away & has a variety of things to do, along with terrific food at the Nohoch Kay Restaurant. If you want to enjoy the quaintness of Mahahual, avoid it when the cruise ships are docked. The village gets too crowded.

My wife and I recently stayed at this property with 3 other couples. The house is beautiful, and in immaculate condition. The fact that each bedroom has it's own bathroom, entrance, and oceanfront patio made it so that each couple could come and go as they liked.
The plunge pool was used frequently when we didn't want to bother with the ocean (such bother).
The American caretaker was friendly and able to steer us in the right direction for things to see and do, and help with translation when needed, to negotiate with the produce and seafood vendors that come to the gate.
And best of all, pillow top beds!
We plan to make this visit an annual event.

Room Tip: The Saluta de Fruta has the most privacy and space if you are just looking for a room.

Stayed in December (end) and January 2012 (beginning).....its a delightful property. Located 15 minutes from the main town on a long curving beach front, two properties down from the Mayan Beach Garden. No two rooms are the same. They are huge and very well appointed. The views from the top floor are to die for. Lots of birds for those who are into photography. David is an amazing host and Chewy and Pinta are a delight to play with. The only negatives are that it has no attached kitchen so you need to venture out. Will visit once again.....if things go well....

It's hard to describe what a perfect place the Taj Majahual is for a group vacation. The setting is incredibly beautiful and isolated. The beach is the best in the area. The house is so well-appointed and comfortable to hang out in that we hardly wanted to leave. Since culinary skills ran rampant in our group of friends we prepared most of our meals in the fabulous kitchen and had wonderful dinners together. The small town of Majahual is a short 30 minute drive and we were able to find most everything we needed (produce, tortillas, cerveza and tequila) there. The quality of the ingredients that we found were far superior to what we're used to in the States. So fresh and tasty. The eggs alone could inspire a separate review! We also took a couple of day trips to view the ruins at Chaccoben ( we were the only ones there), enjoy lunch, cocktails and swimming at the Cenote Azul and Hotel Laguna in Bacalar, and snorkeling in Xcalak. Just down the road is the Mayan Beach Garden where we had dinner on our first and last nights. Marsha and Kim are great hosts and Bill, the bartender, is the "Dude" incarnate. Watch out for his margaritas! The food there is excellent and the opportunity to meet and converse with fellow travelers is a plus. Speaking of service, the folks who operate the Taj are first rate. Gabe the owner was very helpful prior to our visit, giving us good tips on how to best arrange our stay and what to expect when we got there. Best of all was Dave, the caretaker, a really good guy from Dallas, who was full of info on the area and always ready to take the extra step to exceed our expectations. Bonus for dog lovers - three terrific pooches (Senorita, Chewy and Pinta) who ably filled in for our dog who couldn't make the trip. We are already talking about when we can go back, but in the meantime, the effects of the Taj Majahual continue to linger and color everyday with a profound sense of happiness and well-being. My favorite vacation ever.
