Stayed in Tulum at end of Feb / March 2012. Was a bit underwhelmed with the room toi be honest and as you only got 2 beers in your room fridge was not blown away with that! Pool Areas all nice although lots of Iguanas about. I enjoyed the breakfasts and lunchs in the Buffet Restaurant...A La Carte restaurants... we went to Pescador the Fish restaurant and it was OK.... Mikado was superb with the Chefs table a Must... The Brazilian restaurant was awful, far too hot inside and we got some terrible fatty cuts of meat ...maybe we were just unlucky.
Staff in general were very good although my Girlfriend saw 3 leave the bathroom at different times without washing their hands ...NOT GOOD! I would recommend a walk alonmg the beach to Akumal to go to the Beach bar that has swings as seats and was a good chill out zone in the afternoon. People should also note the distance from the airport its at Least a 90 minute transfer.

Room Tip: We were in block 28...long walk from reception!!

stayed here in Jan 2012 with wife and 2 small children.
Buffet is gross; we all felt sick after every meal and mornings were a battle for the bathroom. However, al a cartes were very good, but difficult to book... makes sense considering the dull, stinky, make u feel like garbage buffet food.
Some really good staff and some not so good staff. Rooms are outdated and lights barely hanging on the wall, but our maid service was really good and considerate. thanks.
Bad encounters: tried to leave our towels on main pool loungers one day (like everyone else does)... went for lunch.. came back.. other people sitting in our chairs and towels disappeared. Whatever, we're not ones for confrontation, especially with small children with us.. so my wife went to the towel guy and the rude jerk reprimanded her for leaving towels and wasn't going to give us more. Wtf, we did this once because we were having a hard time finding anywhere to sit because everyone else was reserving the chairs.
Also had a disappointing experience when we tried to get braids done for our daughter.. staff was much less than enthusiastic about doing it and when we tried to pay in pesos they couldn't figure out how much it was because they only accept USD?
Snorkelling was ok, but nothing special compared to other destinations. Red flags up every day.. very windy while we were here. However, Xel Ha is really quite cool.. definitely the highlight of our vacation.
I would avoid this place, especially after hearing about the Canadian RCMP couple that were drugged by one of the pool bars.

Went to this resort from 02/27/12 till 03/05/12 with Air Canada Vacations. Right from the start we were met by nice ACV employee who brought us to the bus that would bring us to the resort. Expected to be doing the dairy run since GBPT is one of the last resorts, but we were surprised with direct service right to the hotel.

Once there check-in was a breeze and we went to grab something to eat before hitting the beach. Yes the beach is rocky in areas, but if you want nice sandy beach to sit, there is plenty of room, and if you want sandy beach to go swim, you can go towards Akumal and you will find what you need.

Food was excellent, varied and staff was great. Yes sometimes the food was cold, but it is a buffet, that will happen everywhere. Great a la carte reservations at Mikado (Good experience) and Don Pablo. (WOW!!) Little tip, book as soon as you get there, the places fill up very quickly for a la carte reservations, since the resort is so big.

The whole resort was very clean, the room was clean, the grounds were gorgeous, and the staff was very friendly and helpful. The only problem is the pool chairs. People put their towel on them and then leave for hours on end without coming back. There is signage saying no reserving of chairs but it was not enforced. It was hard to get some pool side chairs.

Overall great week and I would recommend it to anyone.

Room Tip: We were in villa 18 and had close access to second pool and 24hr Snack bar. It is farther away from...

Stayed between February 24 - March 2. We ended up being "bumped" here 2 days prior to departure with Sunquest as the Grand Xcaret somehow managed to overbook literally dozens of people (which they did make up to us) Sunquest also promised a $50 rebate as the Xcaret did offer the park pass included - so far they do not seem to be forthcoming.

Was quite impressed with our first Southern vacation. Read many reviews and it seems there are a LOT of food critics (or Americans) there. The food in the a la cartes was great and for the most part the buffets were great with lots of choices. You have access to the other Akumal and Coba resorts with easy transportion to and from.

Very nice staff who went out of their way to make sure we were satisfied. Beautiful beach with a lot of spaces to choose from. Pools were loud - but it is a family resort as well so have to expect that. Good size room. Only real growling about it was the maid did come in one day even with the "do not disturb" sign clearly on the door and our bar fridge was not stocked well. (The 2 minute walk to the 24 hr bar is REAL exerecise!!!)

While it isn't the same overall "experience" as home what I realize is we went there to GET away from home! Sure the food was a bit of an adjustment and perhaps some of the alcoholic drinks were weaker.. but is an ALL INCLUSIVE week in a different country. I told myself it was an excellent experience and not there to stress about pety trivial things! Would certainly consider this resort again!

I stayed at this resort on the Millenium 12 years ago, before the Akumal and Coba were built. The resort is still awesome. Perfect location, great beach towards the Akumal end, plenty of pool chairs and beach cabanas. Staff very friendly. Iguanas everywhere. This resort is huge, but it doesn't feel that way. There are alot of people, but plenty of room to move around. 10 minutes from Xel Ha and 10 minutes to Akumal Bay. Now problems with our stay. Took my 8 year old son and he loved it as well. Food was okay. I don't go to Mexico to eat, but the food was average and there were plenty of choices with the three resorts all exchanging privileges. People complained about the Tulum section being old. Our room looked exactly the same as it did 12 years ago, but it was clean, everything worked, except the fridge one evenining. No biggie they came and fixed it after I brought it to their attention. Had a great Mexican BBQ on the beach for us one night before we left. Had a great vacation. Will definetely return or try a Bahia at my next vacation.

Room Tip: we stayed in villa 7, which was fine. However met people from villa 21 on the 4th floor and they had...
