We really enjoyed the condo! Very private. Just step out the sliding door to a nice patio with loungers and a wonderful private ocean sand side table and 50 feet further away from the room and you're in the warm water. Nice condo pool too. The bed was very comfortable!!!!
We really enjoyed taking long walks up and down the beach. Snorkleing and swimming just off the beach too. Daily volleyball games were fun too.
The studio is close enough to Tulum and Akumal for food shopping and restaurants. We did rent a car for our week and found it very helpful. We traveled to the Coba Mayan ruins and went cenote scuba diving outside of Tulum. We liked snorkeling and lunch/dinners near Akumal's bay too (just a short 10 min. drive north of the condo).
The studio is very well equipped with kitchen items. Bottled water 5 gallon dispenser and a big fridge too.
We arrived the first day at night and found it a little hard to locate exactly where to go from the parking area. The night security person could not help us. But after walking around a bit we found it.
We would defiantly return!!!
Condo was clean and pretty well maintained, nothing was broken. Small things like water stains around faucet base, not sure they can be cleaned, toilet seat was a little loose. The housekeeping was great, they did a fantastic job everyday. AC worked really well. Doors all locked securely. Akumal direct folks were great! We really enjoyed it and would go back.
The really only big downside was fishermen park their boats right in front of the beach, so everyday there were 3 or 4 boats floating about 10-20 feet out in the water, it made snorkeling or just enjoying the water a bit of a downer as you had to be careful of the boats.
We had a great time we just love akumal, I will leave some tips at the end of my review .
Studio 001 was a great little condo for a couple, huge slider opens right to the beach , bed was firm but probably the softest we have found in our Mexico travels .
Ac worked almost to good .
Place came stocked with Ice and a water cooler with an extra bottle , it had small kitchen a four top burner stove , great for making breakfast . Microwave blender coffee maker toaster ,and basic pots and pans , a huge walkin closet , in the bathroom area .a charcoal grill outside. And it is right beside oasis Tulum resort , actually some of the rooms int the building are part of the resort . And we had no problems using the resort pools they resort manager said we coul use any pool and even the gym if we wanted , and if we wanted We could ad allinclusive day passes for about $41 u.s per person per day . But we had no need for that . There are some boats along the beach I hired one to take me and my wife on a fishing trip for 3 hours, for $180 . There's a reef with in swimming distance lots of fish to see , do bring water shoes . There's a safe in the room and security in the parking lot , so that was nice , the maid cleans everyday but Sunday. And she put fresh sheets on the bed every other day we were there 8 days. So now for some tips when visiting Akumal.
1 rent a car , everything is basically off of the main highway 307 , and it's really not bad driving . Do expect to pay a lot for insurance, and don't buy it ahead of time because they will tell you it's not sufficient , or you can go with American rental car the include Everything, for about $250 for the week . We used mex this time and paid $85 for the car and 170 for the mandatory SLI insurance . For 8 days . But still worth the hassle, next time however I'll just use American rental car .
So we stopped doing all inclusive resorts in this area because it feels a bit like ground hog day , by day 3 three , and there is so much to do outside of the resorts and easy and cheap on your own.
2 places to go if you like to snorkel Akumal public beach , it's like 3 km away and there is always turtles there . It's a public beach so if you have your gear it's free , it does cost about 2.50 a day for parking .
Next stop we like is just past Akumals public beach la Bueno vita , it's a restaurant with some decent snorkeling and good food and even a pool and hammocks . We went there several times . I want to say for $20-$30me and my wife had our meals and several drinks . They even have a happy hour we caught once I think it's from 4-6 . All the restaurants seem to be inexpensive.
Next spot for us was yalkool it's abut $14 per person if you have your gear it's got some decent snorkeling, and it's really calm .
We also did casa cenote's it's towards Tulum it was nice about $5 if you had your gear , and right past it is blue sky restaurant for some great Pizza .
We did go see the ruins in Tulum which is cool If you've never done it . Cost $8 or $10 to park and like $4 for the entrance fee
We also did Jarden Elden , cenote's for like $5 a person, they have a cool platform you can jump off .
Do exchange your money for pesos, every where takes U.S money but at a very bad exchange rate you basically lose 20% paying in U.S $ . We orderd pesos from our home bank before we left and hit up an ATM when we needed more . We hit up Walmart in playa delcarmen for , beer and snacks and what ever we needed for the condo , you can pay there whith U.S $ and the give you pretty much the exact exchange rate .
Also bikini beach bar is just a short walk down the beach from the condo for lunch , it's just ok but convenient. and about $8 a plate , 3-5$ for drinks
Most places we ate we had left overs we later would eat for breakfast,
Last tip where ever you rent keep your food in ziplock bags or in the fridge as antz are plentiful in Akumal.
