We have been going to Akumal since 1970 -- yes, 1970. We went there because we were on the dusty gravel road to Tulum and the road became too rough and difficult to navigate, so we went in at the great white gate to the newly opened "Club Akumal Caribe," the project of the Mexico City businessman and amateur diver and archaeologist Pablo Bush Romero. We found the place wonderful, and decided to return and stay. Which we did, year after year. The big break came for us when a helpful person at the gate one year told us about CARIBBEAN fANTASY! We had always wondered how we could rent one of the beautiful villas in Akumal north. So now we found out! We first rented the Nah Hah villa one year over Christmas, and met the owners of Caribbean Fantasy. The love affair went on from there, year after year, until finally, we were able to rent the condo at the Yal Ku Cai, which we had been looking at year after year, hoping to stay there. The building had become a bit derelict (It was the first real condo building to be built in Akumal) and to our delight we saw that someone was living there. So we asked if we could rent, and we could! So our affair with condo #3 began and has continued to this day. It's a dream place, on the sea, with the Caribbean breezes and ocean sights and sounds. It has everything we wanted -- snorkeling in the beautiful calm laguna or in Half Moon Bay, glorious flowering trees, animal life, bird life. And a plus for us was being close to Maya archaeological sites, which we had been studying, starting in Guatemala, since 1967. So there you have it. The Yal Ku Cai is our home in the Yucatan, and we are totally in tune with it, and the wonderful owners and Caribbean Fantasy, all of whom have taken us to their hearts!
