“A Gem in the Heart of Akumal”

We traveled to Akumal for a family vacation in early February and loved our stay in Casa Esperanza - it really felt like home away from home. The house itself is immaculate and beautifully decorated and the staff are kind and incredibly helpful (as are the owners!). The kitchen is very well equipped, perfect for cooking for a family, but there are also numerous delicious restaurants walking distance away if you don't feel like cooking. We loved breakfasts at Turtle Bay Cafe and dinners at La Cueva del Pescador and La Buena Vida.

The house is not located on the beach but this was actually an asset for us! Whenever we wanted to be at the beach we would just walk 2 min to get there. When the sun got too hot or the crowds too rowdy, we would retreat to the serenity of Casa Esperanza and the hammocks by the pool. Casa Esperanza's backyard is beautiful and my kids loved watching the wildlife that roamed on the neighboring jungle lot (birds, white-nosed coatimundi, and possums).

We also loved the location of the house. We rented a car and took day trips to Tulum (30 min south), Playa del Carmen (35 min north), and numerous cenotes (10-15 min away). Perfect location for exploring the whole coast!

The only challenges we had with the house were because of how young our kids were (11 months and 3 yo). The pool does not have a fence/gate around it which wasn't a problem for us but may be for others whose little ones aren't used to being cautious around water. Also, the bedrooms look out onto the patio/pool area and aren't connected to each other. Our kiddos were to small to stay in a bedroom by themselves (we wouldn't have heard them at night) so we ended up putting an extra mattress on the floor by the king sized bed and we all stayed in a room together.

Other than that our time in Casa Esperanza was wonderful and we will definitely go back next chance we get. We definitely would recommend it to anyone looking for a peaceful, beautiful place in paradise.

Casa Esperanza was very close and accessible to the small town of Akumal and the beach, but very private, particularly on the back side with pool surrounded by the jungle. The house was extremely well maintained, clean, well appointed with the rooms (bedrooms, living room, kitchen and outside patio) facing the private pool area. The bedrooms were spacious and each had a private bathroom with large showers. The indoor living room and kitchen were very nice and open, however we found that we spent most of our time, while at the house, enjoying the covered patio sitting area facing the pool or in the sun on the chaise loungers next to the pool. The free washer and dryer on sight was a great convenience during our stay helping to reduce the amount of clothes that we had to bring along. (Who am I kidding....my wife still brought a lot of clothes, but I was able to get away with less. :) )

We have stayed in a number of hotels, all-inclusives and condos in Cancun, Playa del Carmen and South Akumal. Casa Esperanza was our first house rental in Mexico and I have to say was our absolute favorite. We have come to love Akumal as a destination, with easy day trips to Playa and Tulum, while the casual dining, snorkeling and beach hanging are so relaxing.

If you are looking for quiet, relaxing and private with the 3-5 minute walking proximity to great food, beach and casual walking destinations, this place is worth putting on your short list. We will definitely be back and plan to share with our friends next time. Enjoy!!
