Have long been a fan of the creme de cassis and recently visited with my husband and another couple on a sunny September day. The tasting of the many products is a treat and there are many nice nooks to relax in with a refreshing beverage or an artisanal gelato. Next time I hope to stop in for lunch. I didn't find any of the artwork on display to be objectionable.

We really enjoyed lunch in the barn. All the cassis products were delicious with lunch . We especially enjoyed the confit pouting and warm goat cheese salad. Try the beer with creme de cassis!

We did not get a chance to eat in the restaurant, though the menu looked really good. In the basement, you can sample different cassis-flavored foods used in the restaurant for free. If you want a cassis liquor tasting, that is about $2. They are not open for dinner.

A sudden breakout of sunshine encouraged us to take a day trip from Old Québec to the île d’Orléans, less than 45 minutes from our hotel. Cassis Monna & Filles was our first and best stop on the island. It’s on the left just over the bridge. The unassuming exterior is easy to miss from the roadside but once inside you are greeted by a lovely series of rooms and an open-air patio with a lovely view of the hillside winery and the St. Lawrence River.

Our lunch was delightful starting with Le Fruité, a light aperitif wine made with black currants and pickled warm olives. We shared a warm goat cheese salad with churned black currant honey and a chicken, olive, black currant & tapenade sandwich with frites. After lunch, we toured the grounds learning about the 5th generation owners and the history of black current production in Canada. All of their products including crème de cassis, fruit wine, excellent condiments, jam and memorabilia are available in the lower shop.

Everything was absolutely delightful… a beautiful view, really good food in a charming setting, charming hosts and warm sunshine. These are the unexpected moments that make a trip memorable.
