although i know this is a reproduction of the original post office that lucy maud worked in from her home, but it is a lovely little place from where you can send post cards and look round the museum for free. also round the back through a field and woods is the original lucy maud homestead foundations where the house used to be and this is only $4 and well worth a visit to complete your anne of green gables search.

I HAVE WANTED TO VISIT PEI SINCE I SAW THE MINI SERIES and finally i went there, it just as good as youd expect the house is around $7 to get in and i thought this was really good value for money. you have the haunted woods and lovers lane and the house is set out inside just like in the tv series. i loved it here and would recommend it to all. loads of parking, toilets, cafe and large gift shop for everything anne.

Yes, it is touristy, but it is Green Gables. Ignore all the other stuff and just go to the house. According to the guides, the house is decorated and furnished according to descriptions in the book with period pieces. Most of the original contents were sold over the years by owners. It can get a bit crowded as it's not a big place, so it's hard to spend time in any one spot. Still, you have to go. Also, walking in the Haunted Woods and Lovers Lane was a joy.

My husband and I thoroughly enjoyed our time on P.E.I. and wanted to do the Anne of Green Gables visit - well, there are so many to choose from...all charging a fee of course. We chose the Museum. The tour included a film, which was interesting and the grounds and house were lovely to visit, but there wasn't much else to do there.

Having read a couple of the books as a young girl and watching the Anne of Green Gables and Road to Avonlea series, our trip to PEI was a real treat. The entry to Green Gables was more like a museum and worth a nice long tour. It was fun to walk around the grounds of Green Gables knowing that LM Montgomery drew her inspiration for many of her writings from this property. I wish Lovers Lane and the Haunted Woods were not as "primed" as they appeared but with so many toursits, I suppose concessions have to be made. I doubt that LM Montgomery had such nice little bridges to use when crossing the streams! We enjoyed the tour of the house, trusting that it was outfitted with the correct period furnishing. We were able to walk Cavendish Beach (by way of Hammie's Lane) right past the Lake of Shining Waters. We did not have time to tour LM Montgomery's birth place (but took a picture from the road) and chose to miss the tiny replica of the village of Avonlea. The little village looked to 'touristy' for our taste but appeared neat and orderly. When we go back to PEI for another vacation, we probably will visit Green Gables again, as our Inn provided us with free passes and we'll spend more time checking out the artifacts and hope the barn has a few more period pieces to make it look like a barn from the late 1800's early 1900's. If you are a fan of this author and not just the stories, you will find the history of this woman and the time and place in which she lived very interesting and worthwhile.
