“Fantastic cottage in a beautiful location.”
Reviewed 13 August 2015 for a stay in August 2015

We have just been visiting friends who live in Canada and spent a long weekend at this cottage I had heard a lot about "cottage country" from our friends, and finally got a chance to experience it. We were not disappointed. This cottage is in a fantastic location, on a creek leading off of the main lake, you have total peace and quiet, so you have no power boats or jet skis roaring past, but within 100 metres you are on the main lake, and are able to experience all it has to offer. We had never been canoeing or kayaking in my life before this trip, but I have now and really enjoyed paddling around the islands and seeing the wildlife.
The cottage itself is perfect, very well equipped, and very comfortable, the deck is great for eating outside, which we did all the time, and it also has a fire pit area which is great fun when it gets dark. There are a lot of steps down to the dock, which isn't unusual for these places, but could be a problem for anyone who is unsteady on their feet. The owners are very attentive, and any minor problems were easily sorted with a phone call. I would say that the pictures really do not do this place justice. The area is stunning. I can't comment on local restaurants as we enjoyed barbecuing and eating in too much.
All in all we had a great time.

“Class act on Stoney Lake”
Reviewed 22 July 2015 for a stay in July 2015

Cottages have a reputation for being rustic and intentionally "second-hand", so we were delightfully surprised to find Moonrakers cottage with upscale furnishings and all the amenities of home - like a killer TV and sound system which was appreciated on rainy days. There were thoughtful things that make a big difference when on holiday - a well equipped kitchen for our "chefs" with a set of good sharp knives and more than one cutting board! New tea towels and plenty of paper towels and garbage bags, which sounds obvious but it is amazing how few rental properties provide the things necessary to keep the cottage clean. Tastefullu appointed with a nice set of dishes and wine glasses gave us the sense of home so we didn't feel we were "renters" but more like family which made us take a bit more care of "our" place. The beds were excellent (so rare to get a king size) with good linens and lots of extra pillows and luxurious towels. The bunkie was clean, bug free and smelled like wood. It provided a nice respite from family hubbub when someone wanted an afternoon nap. We all enjoyed canoeing on Stoney Lake, though we didn't swim as the river didn't seem too appealing - too weedy for us city folk. All in all though, a very nice experience at a well designed and interesting cottage in a quiet setting for all the family, even the dog. Big thanks to the Shaws.

Liked best: Good quality furniture. Tastefully appointed decor and equipped kitchen.
Liked least: Dishwasher wasn't effective. We ended up washing everything by hand. But it's a cottage so one doesn't really expect or need a dishwasher does one?

“Unique layout and great fishing”
Reviewed 3 July 2015 for a stay in June 2015

This cottage was great, built into the rocks in a quiet bay. I was there with friends and family and there was lots of room to entertain whether sitting by the fire or playing board games that are supplied when a huge thunderstorm came through. And if you like fishing this cottage is great probably caught over 50 bass and only got out 3 times.

“Beautiful location for a great vacation at any time of year.”
Reviewed 14 April 2015 for a stay in September 2014

My husband and I spent a long weekend at the cottage in the Fall with 2 children and grandparents. The location is very peaceful and ideally located for the many activities on the nearby lake whatever the season.
The cottage is very well equipped and has a great aspect from the main living area. We made use of the lovely wood burning stove in the cosy living room which really helped with the colder evenings and I can imagine that my children would have enjoyed sleeping in the outdoor "Bunkie" if the weather had been better.
There are a few good restaurants nearby to eat and we enjoyed visiting the Petroglyphs Provincial Park. If the weather had been more favourable then we would have loved to make good use of all the equipment the cottage had to enjoy activities out on the water.

Thank you for taking the time to submit a review. I am glad you enjoyed your stay despite the terrible weather you had that weekend. Such a shame you were not able to get out on the lake and you would see why we love this cottage so much.

“Gorgeous lakeside cottage with lovely views”
Reviewed 8 April 2015 for a stay in February 2015

Loved this place. It has beautiful big windows with an amazing view down to the lake, and of the sun setting. It's built into the hillside but still has loads of outdoor space with lots of decked lake frontage. The weekend we stayed was one of the coldest this winter, but it was cosy inside and we wrapped up warm and explored a little - you can walk for miles along the frozen lake, or on the trails through the nearby woods. Kids and us had a fab time exploring, finding a great place to jump into the piles of snow, roasting marshmallows on the fire outside.

The entrance has a fab conservatory type area that was great for dumping all our winter boots, coats, snow pants etc. Actually there was loads of room inside but it meant no snow trailed in! It was handy having the laundry too.

The kitchen was really well equipped and the beds were super comfy (memory foam maybe?). We didn't use the bunk house but we checked it out and what a cute place to sleep!

We plan to come back in the summer to take advantage of all that awesome lake frontage and the canoes/boats that the owners let you use.

Just a note - when we arrived, it was dark and we couldn't see most of the main cottage from the road, so we weren't sure if we had the right place. But if you see the garages, park up and the path to get in was to the right!
