Went on Friday night at 5 o'clock. Good thing we did because by 5:30 it was full. Very pleasant server and delicious food. I had stuffed Yorkie that was big enough for two accompanied by very nicely done roasted cauliflower, carrots and broccoli with mashed potatoes. The others had meat pie, burger and Caesar salad, soup and calamari. All good. Tables are small and close together, just like a European pub. Parking is on the street. If you have tickets for Theatre Ancaster you receive a discount on your meal. A nice incentive to eat here!

My wife and I were staying at The Barracks Inn across the street. We were given the recommendation from there to eat here. (Bonus...get a discount for mentioning that we are staying there) The atmosphere was very old, pub like. Warm, cozy find a seat that you want. I was facing the very old bar and enjoyed the hustle and bustle of the staff. We enjoyed two 20oz beers and shared the French Onion soup. My wife had the Reuben and I had the Beef dip sandwich. We definitely can see the atmosphere being part of this historic pub. Would definitely recommend it to anyone!

Love this place. We have been several times. Summer time patio is like being in a local UK pub. Awesome food: pulled pork sandwich mouth watering. Good beer, friendly service. Had a 90th birthday party there for my father in law: so fun!

Go back in time to the war of 1812 and try to imagine how difficult life must have been
between these cold stone walls.Well that was then and this pub is no longer a cold and dangerous place to be.Today it is quite the opposite= with warm and friendly reception and a local hotspot for seasoned chef’s in the area. You can go for burgers and wings anywhere, but it’s hard to please a good chef and the last thing a hard working cook wants at the end of a hard day is disappointment.I am rarely unhappy with anything on the menu and would recommend the Caesar salad as well.Hopefully, you have walked around the village and have a good appetite since the portions are good as well.
Have no fear the great assize is past and here’s hoping you have a wonderful repast.

Bone appetit from Chef Denis

Delicious food at reasonable prices, cozy atmosphere, friendly & efficient service and great entertainment. The outside patio is a lovely alternative in the warmer weather. We shared a sticky toffee pudding for dessert that was "to die for".
