“Peace & Tranquility In Stunning Countryside Elegance”
Reviewed 13 September 2017 for a stay in September 2017

Jasen Shaw, Proprietor, and his family have created a magical setting in the Margaree Valley for complete peace and quiet in a convenient, amazing log house with all the modern amenities. It is far away from the beaten path; however, for an extended visit, you can find easy access to restaurants (Baddeck Lobster Suppers, Island Sunset Restaurant), a nearly undiscovered local swimming spot on the Margaree River across the road at the Margaree Fish Hatchery, the Margaree Co-Op grocery, the Red and White Market (closed on Sundays), the John Cabot Trail, St. Francis Xavier University in Antigonish, the Grand Pre (UNESCO World Heritage Site) in Wolfville, Ingonish Bay / Ingonish Beach and lots more. Plan on spending an unscheduled couple of days just to enjoy the house, the quiet surroundings, the wildlife (I swam w/ a very curious wild cormorant in the Margaree River one afternoon), the sunrise and the sunset. Fall colors were not yet in their glory; however, you could see even in early September that the trees were getting ready to burst into color I'm a couple more weeks. Jasen and his family are fantastic w/ keeping in touch throughout the reservation process and are very expedient to answer all messages and questions. Family member, Brad, called us on our second day just to check if we needed anything or if we had any issues w/ settling in. Really superb service! In this Log House you have all the comforts of home: fully-equipped kitchen, high-tech front-loading LG washer/dryer, lots of linen and towels, really comfortable beds, a wrap-around deck where you can sit outdoors and read and/or have a glass of wine or a beer while watching the sun set. No ambient light at night, so do bring battery-operated lanterns and good flashlights w/ extra batteries for getting around in case the electricity should fail. (Little chance of this happening, but just be prepared as there is NO AMBIENT LIGHT in this neighborhood). This is one of the Log House's great features: no ambient street light, no fire or ambulance sirens, no traffic, no car doors slamming, no screaming children in the road, no car horns beeping. Heaven, pure heaven! Internet and TV are included in the house amenities, but my suggestion is to keep the TV off and stay offline from the net! You'd be surprised by how much more enhanced your visit will be staying off-grid for a few days! Truly uplifting. All in all, this house will make Nova Scotia really come ALIVE for you and learn how to live in the moment! Thank you, Shaw Family! Aloha! Robby of Maui & Friends
