I loved this place, and only wish we'd planned for more than one night there. My husband and I stayed in the suite - which had everything I could have wanted: Whirlpool, gas fireplace, comfortable king bed, coffee maker; My kind of roughing it at "the top of the island"!  Our hosts, Hansel and Sharon, have lived in this house for years, and it has been in his family for MANY years before that!  The couple couldn't have been more down-to-earth or nicer.  Within minutes of our arrival I felt like family myself!

We slept well - despite being serenaded by Eastern Coyotes, which only made this beautiful 'up island' inn that much more authentic and exciting! And then the next morning Hansel treated us to our most complete, and the best, included breakfast we had been served anywhere during our trip.

The only suggestion I would make is for the suite's toiletries and towels to be refreshed... replaced with new and more luxurious ones, respectively. And that's just a tip to hopefully make a great place perfect!

Everything was as advertised, and then some. It's a "don't miss" in my book.

Such a lovely retreat off the beaten path! With the beautifully appointed rooms, comfortable beds and perfect views from ever corner, we wished we had booked for more than one night.Stay for two nights, and take advantage of the well manicured gardens and the private hiking trails too.Pause awhile, and chat with the hosts, whom are happy to share the history of their home as well as suggest things to do in the area.

Even though the weather had closed down on us, Oakwood Manor lifted our spirits. On arrival we were offered tea and shown into the farm's lounge which had a spectacular hexagonal cedar ceiling and windows overlooking a large orchard with trees that are at least 75 years old. In the breakfast room the wood stove was covered by a couple of dozen recently prepared jars of crabapple jelly. Delicious. After settling into our very well-appointed room in the newer annexe, complete with corner fireplace, the skies cleared and we took a >1km walk through the orchard, the meadows behind to the edge of the spruce forest. What a lovely property. Our breakfast was the heartiest we had all trip with eggs done any way you wanted them, bacon, lots of toast with, guess what, crabapple jelly to spread on each piece. Access to the internet was offered - a nice touch for those without lap-tops!

Room Tip: Corner suite in the 'new' wing was large, airy and well appointed

This is truly a wonderful bed and breakfast to stay several nights. It's a little remote, but still close to Meat Cove, Pleasant Bay, Ingonnish and the Cabot Trail. The McEvoy's are wonderful hosts and have a lovely home. Our room was beautfiul and the bed was very comfortable. The bathroom was good size and very much enjoyed the bathtub with jacuzzi. Breakfast was really good eggs, bacon and toast. A bird feeder located outside the breakfast table window provided entertainment as several varietes of birds would come by to eat. The sitting area was quite comfortable to relax and read a book and enjoy good conversation with other guests. We will definitely return and stay longer next time.

It's a little off the beaten path but worth the effort. We had mountain views out of our window. Very clean and comfortable. Excellent breakfast with eggs cooked any way you want, bacon, cereal, toast tea or coffee. Our host was very knowledgeable on the local folklore. I highly recommend The Oakwood Manor
