We desired accommodations as close to the Viking Village in L’Anse aux Meadows as possible; But we also wanted something with a bit of character, at a decent price. Keep in mind, there’s not a great deal to choose from in this sparsely populated area. In the end, we went with Snorri Cabins ‘Ocean Side Cottage’ – and never looked back.
The cottage is located on a secluded cove with few neighbours and lots of privacy. The little red log cabin is even cozier on the inside and is impressively kitted out. It’s clean and up-to-date, something you don’t always expect in an isolated area. There are mod-cons like Wi-Fi, Satellite TV and every appliance you can imagine; But the woodsy and rustic décor reminds you that despite enjoying all the comforts of home, you’re still at a charming rural retreat. To add to the romance, we had our own little iceberg floating right in front of us, in Spillars Cove!
Despite there being just the two of us (the cabin slept four), we went for the ‘Ocean Side Cottage’ because it was miles more charming than the other Snorri cabins on offer. It was definitely worth the extra cost for the charm, privacy and waterfront location.
Ford and his wife were helpful, but hands-off hosts, which is exactly what we preferred. They were a phone call away when we got challenged with the TV remotes (and very responsive), but left us in peace otherwise. Essentially this place is like an old-school Airbnb (without the middle-man). We slept like babies and found the cabin very central to access other facilities and activities within the area (St. Anthony, Burnt Cape Ecological Reserve, Raleigh, Onion Cove, etc.).
We’d definitely recommend the ‘Ocean Side Cottage’ to anyone contemplating a stay anywhere in the Saint Lunaire-Griquet vicinity – it’s great value and sure to please!
We wanted proximity to Lanse aux meadows and this was the right location, being only 2 kilo meters away. The cabin is clean, basic but provides the necessities. The area is quiet and feels quite secure. One has to be well organized as dinIng out can be challenging and the local groceries can run short of items such as we found there was no bread delivery. The wifi was a problem and it took us some time to get the television organized Overall it is a reasonable place to stay.
We stayed here only one night as we were here to go to L'Anse aux Meadows. Picked up our keys at Blakes Cash and Carry just up the road - very convenient. Beautiful quilt on the bed, which was comfortable.
A quite new cabin just a couple of kilometres from L'Anse aux Meadows and the Viking site. Check in was very easy as it's at the local cash and carry which is open until midnight. The cabin was comfortable and reasonably equipped, very clean and had a washing machine (don't forget washing powder though). It's not luxury but has everything needed for a comfortable stay and is a great base for a really interesting area. You need to take care though when driving from the main road onto the track leading to the cabin as it is momentarily steep, and a low slung car as ours is, will get scraped underneath.
We recently spent a night here to visit the Viking settlement. The two bedroom motel unit was spacious and clean. The little sitting room was very handy. The laundry facility was right next door. The price was good. Well worth a stay.
