“Big Bar is absolutely beautiful and the staff are amazing!”
Reviewed 17 July 2010

I purchased this trip from a Childrens Hospital Silent Auction and it was worth every penny that I spent. The staff are incredibly friendly and welcoming, and even with teenagers we were busy every minute we were there. Lots of games to play, and the horses are incredibly well trained. You can tell they take alot of pride in their stable and make sure the horses are matched with each rider. The thing that impressed me the most about the horses is that they did not bolt and try to run home as soon as the stable was in view, as that is what happens to at stables I have visited in the lower mainland. The buffet was very good and a great selection, especially at dinner time. There was a family there with 4 small children and the staff entertained the children so the parents could have some relaxation time after dinner, very appreciated I am sure. Wonderful place to stay and highly recommend it.

We spend 4 days at Big Bar guest ranch, eventually doing three 2 hour trail rides.
Unlike other guest ranches Big Bar provides the feeling that you are on an actual ranch, the landscape is beautifull and nature is all around. Big Bar is located app. 45 minutes from the nearest highway, but the road is good and if you follow the road signs Big Bar is easy to find. The accomodation was a little small but nice and clean and most of the day is spend outdoors anyway. Staff was very friendly, horses and materials were great and overall it was an excellent experience.

A great place to get away from the day to day life of work!! We wanted a horseback experience like none other and we certainly got it here. A no frills ranch but you have all that you would need. We cut ourselves off from the world for one week, no contact with anyone outside and was wonderful. We were warmly greeted as we got out of the car and the service never stopped. A** to all the staff who were very helpful, funny, accommodating, and made delicious food. Breakfast, lunch and dinner was superb. We had a cabin which was very comfortable with all ammenites that you need. We opted for a 2-3 day trail ride which took us off the ranch for 4 days. We stayed at Cow Camp (dont expect the Ritz - it is basic, facilities was basically a whole in the ground inside a shed. But what do you expect you are living the cowboy and girl dream. I am a woman and it didnt bother me one bit i loved it. Just dont sit for too long cos the mossies will get the open flesh!!!) Dave our guide was great - a real cowboy with some great stories. Bill joined us up at camp to ride and for dinner - he had some good tales to tell - and he brought the BUTTER & BEER - good old Bill!! The ride was fantastic, the Cariboo is beautiful, and we rode for hours and were never bored once!! Dave made us real cowboy dinners and the breakfasts were huge and tasted lovely. I cant rate them enough. We rode into canyons up and down mountains, saw wildlife, there is no better way to see all this than on horseback. My trusty steed was Sonny and I almost stole him and shoved him in the boot of the car as we left but sadly he had to stay!! He was a lovely ride and we bonded over the week (well we bonded through his stomach anyway - he was rather gutsy to say the least) When we got back to ranch, Susan, Steen and Stef greeted us, we were full of stories but after 4 days of not having a shower they didnt stand too close, we got the message and had showers, We went for another ride the next day up to the Knoll which has spectacular views of the ranch and surrounding area for miles. We tried our luck at fishing but those trout tease you by jumping out of the water but wont take the line or bait! We went walking around the lake which houses beavers, best to go early morning - it is breath taking. It was so sad to leave, the whole experience of ranch life was great and something Id like to do again. A massive thankyou to Susan & Steen the managers, you made our visit a pleasure. Also to Dave - thank you for everything, you are a wonderful guide and a credit to the ranch. Your singing and guitar playing was good and entertaining, but you also entertained me by forgetting where you put you flipper!! Thanks also to Bill for taking us on a fantastic ride on that Sunday - a memorable day we wont forget the lightening strike in a hurry! Hope my horse Sonny is doing well, thank you all at the Big Bar guest ranch - we will be back - all the best Allana & Steve Jones

Went only went for 1 night and 1 day. That was way too short.

It took us a long time to get there - it didn't help that we got lost and ended up at another Big Bar ranch.

When we finally got there, it was an amazing experience and well worth the time. Horseback riding, cattle, etc. AWESOME. Everything that you would expect from a dude ranch.

Positives: Surroundings, staff, cabins,...
Negatives: there were no signs indicating that you were going in the right direction.

The Ranch is beautiful located in the middle of the cowboy country.
A very warm welcome and a really nice crew made my stay unforgetable!
The Horses are amazing and so is the landscape you see on the trail rides!
I really have to recommend the day rides - so much fun!
Another point was the good and healthy food!

I would go there in a heartbeat again!
