“CLEAN AND WELL LOCATED”
Reviewed 7 September 2010

we were going on holiday with friends but booked at the last minute. Our friends had booked into the belle ville but we couldnt get a room there, we ended up in the Hotel Alba. I had read the reviews and wasnt looking forward to it. However, what a lovely surprise we had in store. It is on a main road and some of the reviews had said it was noisy, and at my age I need my sleep. We were pleased to find that our room overlooked the pool, we never heard any noise at night and slept like logs. However I would say that if you were on the land view (i.e on the busy main rd) I am sure you would hear noise there. We didnt eat at the hotel as we wanted to spend as much time with our friends as possible, but on the very last night whilst waiting for coach to take us to the aiport, we decided to go into the restaurant, and to be honest everything looked fine, and what we had was delicious. I would def recommend this hotel, sheets changed every day, and the room we had was immaculat, and very large. Dont be put off the Hotel Alba by the bad reports, we never had a problem, maybe we just arent fussy, but we couldnt find fault it and had a great time.

With both me and my boyfriend being 21, we knew the Alba would be a perfect hotel as its very central in Sunny Beach. Having read a few bad reviews we decided to go with an open mind. With having a late flight we did not arrive at the Alba until 3am. The receptionist was extremely helpful, we were checked in within 5 minutes of arriving and were straight to our room, which was a good size, clean and had a good sized balcony. Having been our first time in Bulgaria we thought the country was beautiful and the hotel staff were really helpful and our maid was brilliant. Overall we would recommend this hotel to anyone, as long as you don't mind a bit of noise, which you expect with the location being so close to everything. The holiday itself was just amazing and a return to Bulgaria and the Alba is a certainty.

Saw this hotel being built several years ago and decided to try it this time. Very clean hotel. Maids in every day, even left towels as swans or some other design every day. Staff in reception and bar so friendly, taught us some more bulgarian words. Try learning the language a bit, it gets you a long way. Our room was on top floor with a fantastic beach view. Breakfast was usual hotel fayre - cereals, eggs every which way, fruit, yogurt, some sort of sausage and bacon!!, salads, cakes etc. Passable but had a full english twice to break up the monoteny. Had happy hour on beer twice a day as well as cocktails all day and not expensive considering a 4 star.

Downside was its central location. We have been to Sunny Beach for last 8 years and was so suprised how the 18-30 mob has taken over the centre with its party crews and bar crawls. We love the resort and the locals but wont stay in the centre again as bars playing loud music until 4 in the morning.

We are going back in September but will stay a bit further away from the centre next time.

Love the place and the people though.

Before we went to this hotel we checked other peoples comments from trip advisor and they did not rate this hotel very highly to our surprise the hotel was very nice, staff very friendly on reception, very good maid service ie. clean towels every day, the only downside is that it was expensive for the hire of the room safe at 35 lev for 7 days which is about 17pounds with no refundble deposit. The location for the beach is about 100yds and restaurants very close, infact your spoilt for choice, we chose the Brothers bar and restaurant with beer at 1 lev or 44p a pint, would recomend the meat sizler at 24 lev or 12pounds, the meal is for two persons well worth it. The swimming pool is freezing cold, best to swim in the warm sea. Our room was on the 8th floor, as the lift only goes to the 7th you only have to go up one flight of stairs but well worth it. Room 802 has a king size bed with a huge room, the biggest we have ever stayed in and balcony to match, with full sea view and pool view, one downside your balcony does not have a divider but the balcony is so big its not a problem. there are only 2 rooms on the top. All rooms are double glazed which is a bonus as you are in the heart of Sunny Beach it can be noisy, you also have a fridge and air conditioning. This hotel is a 4 star in Bulgaria but it is more 3 star rating, breakfast very good value, evening meals are 16 lev per person, also good value, eating out is also very cheap. Overall a good hotel. Would probably not go back to this hotel but that is not a bad comment, we just like to try different hotels.

The hotel is stuck in a timewarp of the 60's/70's. It needs totally redecorating and bringing up to date. It was dirty and needs a good clean. Sunbeds were plentyful, but because of being in the sun 24/7 and them being old, they had gone soft and if you tried to put them on any level other than sat up, they collapsed. There were only a few with cushions on, which were filthy. Bedrooms were clean on the whole and a decent size. Food was terrible - Continental breakfast with 3 cereals (horrible cornflakes, some kind of chocolate balls for kids and a sort of Alpen that smelt musty). Breads, one kind of jam, honey etc. Cooked comprised 10 ways to cook an egg, horrible wafer thin watery ham in place of bacon, very spicy sausage and frankfurters, cold meats and usual cheese - definately geared for the many Germans and Russians!! As for the fruit juice - every one was dilute juice with just a splash of the flavour it was supposed to be and the fresh fruit was ridiculous - it was rotten; melon was over ripe, peaches, apples and grapes were all passed their sell by date - yuk!! I think I can sum up the overall impression of the holel by saying that the till in the bar was an old shoe box!!!!!!! Oh and by the way, the staff were pig ignorant - never smiled, ignored you and half of their families seemed to be in the bar all day with prams, children etc and they were more interested in them. However, the resort is very busy and more for 18-30s (new Ibiza/Magaluf etc). If you went out for meal at night everything came with chips, although meat was plentyful and very nice. If you asked for salad you had to pay seperately for this and it consisted of cucumber and tomato only - we had no veg the 7 days we were there!!! Nessebar is worth a look - we went twice to get a bit of decent civilisation. If you are going to Sunnybeach, don't touch the Alba, try the Rui or Iberiostar instead. - Hope this helps you to decide!!!!
