We spent one night in this ultra modern hotel on January 6, 2012. The staff was very friendly, and check in was swift and courteous. Our room was on the second floor and because it was Christmas break there were lots of preteen hockey players running back and forth but they settled down. They're just boys and the supervisors were good with them. The room was quite unique with a little office area set off from the bedroom area by a sliding glass divider above the desk. This area also had a comfortable sofa, nice bright floor lamp for reading and chaise lounge. Excellent. The windows have a pull down privacy shade that allows the sunlight in but keeps the privacy as well as having thick room darkening drapes. The entrance does not have a convenient closet by the door but all the way across the room nor does it have a place for wet shoes at the door. The room has a small micorwave and a little fridge for cold drinks. The kingsized bed was one of the most comfortable we've slept in at any hotel for a long time. We were impressed with the reading lights as part of the headboard.
The complimentary breakfast was varied and plentiful. It was one of the best stocked breakfasts we've seen at any of the Grand Forks hotels. They offered coffee (with flavoured creamers) juice, Activia yogourt, bagels, muffins, omelets, bacon, cinnamon rolls, waffles, several kinds of cereal, toast, with all kinds of condiments, and fruit.
A Major Negative:
The bathroom in the room was the worst we've experienced. The bathroom is divided into two areas, (toilet and sink in one area and shower and sink in other and no tub), each separated from the bedroom (and located at the foot of the bed) and each has a sliding green glass door. It is the most inconvenient set up for anyone. As a married couple it was even awkward. If you are naked in the shower room and about to have a shower and have to use the toilet you have to come out of the shower room, go to the other room where the toilet is and then back again. How awkward is this if you were sharing a room with a colleague while attending a conference, or a whole number of other scenarios? So while you are in bed you could have your partner running back and forth. My wife found the mirror in the bathroom with the toilet close enough to put on make up but there was no shelf for her to put her things and the light was poor. The shower room has a big mirror with a vanity but you have to lean away over it to do makeup and the light has a greenish hue. With the light on in the bathrooms your shadow is visible to anyone in the bedroom so watch what you do and because they are so close to the bed and without any fans, noise is a problem as well as odour. Bring your own air freshner.. Because of the awkward bathroom facility, we won't stay there again.
