Review of Tre Nonne

Tre Nonne
Ranked #8 of 681 Restaurants in Winston Salem
Certificate of Excellence
Price range: USD 12 - USD 40
Description: FROM THE SHORES OF ITALY, TO BROOKLYN NYC, TO NORTH CAROLINA... The Tre Nonne story begins, of course, in the old country. Hailing from Naples and Calabria; for generations the forerunners of the Maresca family took great pride and enjoyment in preparing the finest traditional Italian meals, served with the utmost hospitality. When Alice DeLuca (Dolly) and her family passed through Ellis Island at the turn of the century, she brought with her an old-world devotion to good cooking, and good fellowship to the new world. A parishioner of Mary Queen of Heaven Church in Brooklyn for decades, you can still see the statue of Mother Mary donated by her in the church courtyard. Alice loved to bake, and worked for many years as a member of the baker's guild, working the Midnight to 6 am shift making donuts. Ann Vitale came to the new world from Naples, and hung her laundry on a wire across Mulberry Street. Ann worked in the meat department at her local supermarket. Always in the kitchen; her authentic recipes still guide us today. Alice Maresca lived her life with a flair for Italian cooking and longevity. She spent many years working for a Manhattan hat maker, all the while perfecting her technique in her home kitchen. The recipes here at Tre Nonne are inspired by the memory of Sunday dinners gone by. The fabulous cooking, family, and friendship from the three family matriarchs -The Tre Nonne- Alice, Dolly, and Ann- inspires every meal we serve -Hearty and delicious pasta, made fresh the old way, perfectly prepared and seasoned meats, fresh salads and, of course, the delectable sauces -our own version of Sunday gravy! Just like in their kitchens, we honor the spirit old fashioned Italian hospitality and strive to make sure you leave full –and with a smile on your face!

Found this great italian restaurant while travelling in Winston-Salem for business. Very friendly owners that are knocking out exceptional Italian food. Fresh pasta and large portions. A new go to place for me.

When I heard this restaurant was located in a strip mall, I had some reservations. Glad to say I was pleasently surprised. I would say they make the most of their surroundings. The food was good, served on time with exactly the right amount of time between courses (something that was complained about in previous reviews on trip advisor)

The Chianti that I had with my veal marsala was excellent.

We had some great laughs with our waiter, as well. This was a first time visit for us and our friends and all said they would come back again.

This is a small restaurant located in a strip mall. However it is tastefully decorated with pictures of family and friends and a casual atmosphere. We were surprised this restaurant opened in close proximity to two other popular Italian restaurants. However, I would have to say this the first time I have ever understood the difference that excellent pasta can make. All of our dishes were excellent however the pasta itself had a life of its own. I enjoyed sausage mushrooms and penne pasta while my wife enjoyed clams with linguine. Our daughter enjoyed spaghetti Bolognese that was wonderful. It seemed as if taking a bite of pasta was just as flavorful as the sausage or mushrooms. Usually pasta is just a filler and that simply was not the case at this restaurant. This is a tasteful but casual setting that will be appropriate for a family or casual romantic date.

My wife and I discovered this perfect date night restaurant about a year ago and we keep coming back. The food is authentic Italian, the ambience is subdued and intimate and the people are as warm as your favorite aunts and uncles. The service is perfect without being intrusive. We have tried multiple items on the menu and haven't found anything that isn't excellent. If that weren't enough, they will match your meal with just the right wine. Thank you Tony, Alice, Debbie, Nick and the rest of the staff. You are awesome!
