We took our 14-year old granddaughter and her friend for a tour of the gnomes at Airlie (they will be there until October). All four of us had a wonderful time. We took lots of photos, kept changing our favorite choices, and enjoyed ourselves thoroughly even though it rained a bit. The Bottle Chapel and the Butterfly House were two other highlights of our visit. What a wonderful community resource!

That was a name of an 80's film when an impassioned lover wanted to revisit a time when his Victorian dream lady existed. He is able to see what it was like to live a hundred years ago and to walk into a lifestyle that was beautiful, sculptured, and elegant. The visionary that created this place for all to see must have had an incredible dream of what it could be. She and her landscaper made that dream come true for those of us today who need a respite, a place to think, a place of solitude and peace. I intend to revisit this year to see the plantings, the designs, and the butterflies. I am taking a book with me and intend to sit near the lake and watch the white egrets encamped in the boughs of the oaks dripping with Spanish moss. If you see a lady in white near the lake wearing a large hat, no it isn't a vision, it is me.

I attended a wedding at Airlie Gardens. What a beautiful setting for the service with a beautiful walk down the tree-lined path to the ceremony. Highly recommend.

For centuries Airlie Garden has been one of the Mainstays of the Wrightsville Beach area. They have beautiful live oak trees with Spanish moss dripping down in the summer, and plenty of beautiful grounds to walk around on in the winter. If you would like to have a special event they have a wonderful fountain with statues of pan and Diane where you can have your wonderful event and take beautiful pictures. Airlie Gardens is one of those places you definitely want to see while visiting the area. There is a small cost at the gate per person, but that goes to help the grounds stay as beautiful as they are. Over the years this place is just gotten better and better, occasionally they have acoustic music which is lovely. Make it a point to go see Airlie Gardens if you're in the area or if you are local because it will open your soul to a happier you. Not to mention that a lot of movies you may have seen where filmed here such as young Indiana Jones, the Carrie Buck story and others. Don't miss the opportunity go into Airlie Gardens ASAP.

Came here as soon as they opened to get some steps in for the day. Pretty walk. The old live oaks were my favorite. I bet it would be nice in the spring when there are flowers. No flowers to see now. The gnomes were cute. I wasn't impressed with the butterfly house. I expected more from it. Few butterflies were in it and it was really hot in there are no breeze came through.
