We did not take the tour guide, however I wish that we had. I believe the tour guides could have filled in all of the unknown details. We visited on probably the coldest day of the year, so the ship was empty of visitors. We were expecting the ship to be freezing, but it was not. Cold but comfortable. Lots of interesting things to see of how a ship was set up in the 30-40's time frame. Most areas of the ship had sample medicine bottles, cigarette boxes, medical equipment etc. from that time period. Very interesting and highly recommended.

This ship allows you to go where others have never let you see. I could not believe the small quarters the Navy had to go into. A must see!

An absolute proper tribute to American ingenuity and spirit. A first for me. The ship tells a story. Truly educational and inspirational. I encourage patriotic folk to stop and appreciate this American treasure. Definitely worth the price.

We decided to pay for the guided tour which is available only on Saturdays. Our guide was amazing as he took us through the ship and provided great details about life on the ship during WWII. Every department and area was described with great knowledge, respect for those who served and with a bit of humor. If you have the stamina, this tour is one of the best museum tours I've ever experienced. Well done. Wear flat, comfortable shoes and be willing to duck going up and down the step ladder type ladders.
