We are on a Thursday evening and there was a short wait for a table. The waiter was very attentive and engaged and took our drink order and brought out a basket of hush puppies which were small and sweet and very good. One had the bay scallops, one had grilled shrimp, another salmon, and I had the shrimp and grits with grilled shrimp. The grits were outstanding and rich and creamy. There were several very tasty grilled shrimp and there was a rich gravy. A very good fish. The sweet potato biscuits were very good, sweet, and nicely spiced. The other meals were very good as was the service.

We ate here yesterday. The menu was very limited and most of the food was fried. We also thought it was very expensive for what you receive as far as portion size.

We drove up from Myrtle Beach, SC to Southport and ate at this restaurant last Thursday. It was very busy being that spring break and Easter weekend were arriving. We had to wait at the bar only a few minutes when we were seated. Laura was our server and although she was busy, as was ALL the staff, they certainly appeared to work as a team. The manager was also on the floor delivering food, clearing tables, etc., The hush puppies they bring to the table with the whipped honey butter are like CRACK. Addictive and delicious. We had the fried oysters, fried scallops, a large salad, beer and wine. All the while sitting at a table overlooking a fabulous view of the water. The oysters and scallops were some of the best we ever had and the service was prompt and friendly. Southport was having a downtown art fair and driving around that quaint town we could see why people love living there. It really is a very, very charming area and The Frying Pan is a great location on the water serving good food at a reasonable price. Some people have complained about all the friend food. Our server let us know that many items could be broiled or baked if requested. Life is short: Eat. The. Hush. Puppies.

This restaurant is right on the water but most of the building faces SE. If you want sunset view, get a table close to the entrance side of the building. Food was pretty good. There is a lot of fried food and sandwiches. The only seafood our party ate was popcorn shrimp and that was good. Philly Cheese steak sandwich was also good. Service was OK when he was attentive. There were long times when we did not see him, but it was a busy night. Don't forget about the hush puppies. Very good. You get a complimentary basket with honey butter. Excellent.

Marie was our server. Very attentive. Great food. Grouper nuggets were yummy. They came with a delicious dip but we got some cocktail sauce too. Had their award winning chowder- thick-perfect-loaded with seafood and corn. We split the Southport steak and cheese sandwich and had to take half of it home. Excellent. And beautiful view!!!!
