Exceptional experience staying for two nights at the Avalon homestead, Peter and Delvene are wonderful and down to earth hosts, the building and accommodation facilities are first class, a wonderful nights sleep, well suited to both group bookings or the occasional visit for couples or families.

I went with some friends to Avalon for a craft retreat. This was my third time there in the past few years, but my first time since they added the 'Gold Room'. Peter and Delveen are great hosts, and Peter cooks excellent meals. Our group had a package that included all meals, which meant we didn't have to leave Avalon for the entire long weekend.

The rooms all have en suite bathrooms and their own reverse cycle air conditioners. The rooms are fairly small and the bathrooms are tiny, but that was fine because I spent very little time in my room -- sleeping and showering only. The sheets were super crisp (ironed!) and the bath towels were huge and fluffy. Most of the decor is 1980s heritage style (maroons, deep greens, cream, pine/wood), but as I said, I didn't spend a lot of time in my room.

The Gold Room was where we spent most of our waking hours. And what a fabulous room it is! It's about 12 x 12 metres, has its own mini kitchen with a full-size fridge, wine fridge, boiling and chilled water on tap, and heaps of wine glasses and platters for snacks. The room is carpeted and has about 30 nearly 2-metre long tables suitable for crafting (quilting, sewing, scrapbooking etc.), excellent ergonomic chairs, heaps of power outlets in the floor, brilliant lighting (natural light through windows on three sides, as well as very bright cool white light from LEDs in the ceiling), great ventilation (those windows again, plus ceiling fans, plus two big air conditioning units. There are two big height-adjustable tables covered in large cutting mats, plus ironing boards and irons. Oh, that we could all have a craft room like this!!!

This place is ideal for retreats or mini-conferences or workshops of any sort. It has 16 rooms that can sleep up to 32 people, as well as two function rooms (the Gold Room I mentioned above, and the older Silver Room).

If your group is big enough, they can include all or some meals. Peter is a great cook and you'll NEVER go hungry!

Avalon is a couple of kilometres out of Toodyay, so you'll need a car to get there (plenty of parking). It overlooks a valley and the hills on the other side. And if you're lucky, you'll get to see baby goats!
