Delightful.

I have never felt so welcomed to a hotel! The Reception was SO friendly! We’d wondered if the bargain price meant we’d be compromising a bit… but the recent renovations are smart and classy and lovely. What a pleasure it was from the moment we arrived! And just a short walk down main street to the restaurant for dinner… a recommendation from Reception (and a very good one!) Easy. Lovely. Perfect!

Booking months ahead (Black Friday discounts) we got a very affordable rate for our stay but were unlucky in that the Barossa had an extreme heatwave (38°c - 44°c) every day during our 5 night stay.

The AC unit in our room appeared to have a maximum lowest temp setting of 20°c. While the remote let you go lower, the display on the unit always said 20°c and it never really felt very cool. Given outside heat, it didn’t cool the room sufficiently and the AC unit either shut itself off during the day or someone (not us) shut it off during the day, leaving leaving the room to heat up, sadly also warming up our recently acquired wine purchases.

The mattress and pillows were comfortable, however, when you untuck the covers for the night the flat bottom sheet comes untucked too. Normal for a hotel, right. No worries I thought, however, I really struggled to tuck bottom sheet back in as the mattress weighs a ton. Seriously, a ton. I had to try and shove the sheet edge into the crack between the mattress and box spring with fingertips which didn’t work very well.

The room had a separate WC/toilet room and a separate shower room to the left and right of the vanity. The WC/toilet was quite compact. It had no exhaust fan and only a high sliding window as the only source of ventilation. We couldn’t keep the window open because with the extreme outside temps and with no AC vent in the toilet room, the WC was hotter than blazes when the door was closed and in use. We had to keep window closed and door propped open with large runners to keep the room cool and ventilated, sadly allowing unpleasant odours to waft into the rest of the room.

The shower room had a wooden door with no gap at the top and a few inches gap at the bottom. It had no AC vent, no fan, and apart from the gap between the bottom of the door, only a small sliding window for ventilation. With hot water running and no ventilation, the heat and steam build up was overwhelming. Both these rooms could cause a panic attack for a claustrophobic person especially when combined with the heat and lack of ventilation.

The tile floor in front of the vanity had lots of hard raised bumps protruding in the grout lines and when stepped on, felt like you were stepping on sharp stones or maybe nails grouted over the top. Reported the issue to management.

Throughout the day and night we heard the occasional loud banging type noise. It wasn’t constant, just a bang every now again. We never did figure out what caused it but it was rather annoying.

The room was quite dark most of the time. Above the vanity were some small frosted windows covered by a blind that we didn’t notice for the first day or two. The other end of the room had a sliding glass door covered by long black curtains with no sheers under so you couldn’t let the light in and have privacy at the same time.

The hotel does not service the rooms daily. The room came with sufficient coffee and toiletry supplies for one day so if you need more coffee supplies, towels, or servicing you have to call or stop by the office and ask. And even when we asked for our room to be serviced, it was only half done, no toiletries or coffee supplies left. We had to ask for a top up of toiletries and coffee supplies separately and even upon asking were given only minimal supplies for a day or so. We don’t need daily servicing but it would have been nice if the room had sufficient supplies for our entire stay.

The hotel had a small pool which was quite popular during our time there. I eyed the swimmers enviously while regretting I didn’t bring swimwear. They also have a gas grill for guests to use which would be a bonus for some guests. Each room also has designated undercover parking directly in front of their door.

The onsite Asian Fusion restaurant has good reviews but was closed for the entirety of our stay so I cannot comment on the restaurant.

It was a clean, affordable room which desperately needs improvements to accommodate heatwaves.

Clean and modern small hotel with about 40 rooms leading back from main road, with a pool and tennis court. Staff very welcoming and friendly. We had room 2, close to road but there was no noise and guests were quiet. Our room for 3 adults was a good size with plenty of crockery etc, small fridge. Clean and tidy. On site was a busy Asian restaurant with very good reviews. Unfortunately we’d eaten a large mid day meal so hadn’t room for another large meal. We’ll just have to return!

Stayed here for a couple of nights and found it was perfect in terms of location. Just a few minutes drive down to the main street where there was food, supermarket and other amenities. Also very near to some more common attractions like Maggie Beer's Farm, the chocolate factory and Mengler's lookout. In terms of the room, it was extremely spacious with separate rooms for the newly-renovated toilet and shower area which suited us fine. The bed was pretty comfy and quiet. Also on the premises is a good, authentic Asian restaurant, "Asian Tucker" which meant we could just walk to and from the restaurant within a minute. The only bugbears were the rather musty smell in the room that we tried each day to get rid of by airing the room (but were not quite successful), as well as earthworms and bugs we found in the toilet and near the sliding door. Not great if you're scared of bugs and worms!

This hotel is situated a kilometre north of Tanunda on the road to Nuriootpa. It is set well back from the road. We are welcomed by cheerful Lindy on reception, who puts us in a large room. The room is one in a long line with covered protection for the car out front. Our room is extremely large, and newly redecorated. (There is evidence of this with an unpainted skirting board, and untidy toilet door frame!) The room contains a very comfortable Queen bed with side dressers, wall lights and a clock. Other furniture is a small table with comfy chairs, a desk with chair, a double wardrobe, and unit containing a set of drawers and storage for our two small cases. The wardrobe contains extra pillows and blanket which we use. There is a TV opposite the bed, but for the room size, a larger screen would be preferable. There is good lighting, air conditioning, and sufficient plugs for recharging. A sliding glass door leads to an undeveloped patio area with a couple of chairs. One side of the unit is devoted to the ensuite: separate toilet, very large shower room, and between, a combined vanity unit/servers with fridge underneath. The gold plated (!) shower gives a good hot flow, but the enclosure is three times as large as necessary with only one inadequate hook behind the door - not well designed. In fact I suspect there used to be a bath and vanity unit in here: they should have kept the vanity unit. The unit has minimal cutlery and crockery, wine glasses (no ordinary glasses!), kettle and coffee machine, toaster, but no microwave. There is a good supply of teabags, coffees and sugars. No daily room service. So … all very nice, ****. Except for one thing. The advertised free wifi is so poor as to be almost useless. I had to use my iPhone as a hot spot. A good connection is really important for me, so my final rating is a reluctant ***.

We stayed here for two nights. Room was quite a good size but it was an unusual design - shower was in a small room by itself and the toilet was in another small room. These rooms were separated by the living area.
Bed was good quality. Good supply of crockery.
