Unfortunately, we had only a very short time to spend in the Barossa Valley, but we were happy to have chosen the Barossa House for our one night there.

The Barossa House is a small B&B located about halfway between the towns of Nuriootpa and Tanunda. There are two rooms, which appeared to be similar in size and furnishings. The rooms are not huge, but are well-kept and nicely appointed (including some local port to enjoy!) The owners, Judi and Lee, were extremely friendly and helpful. Lee used to own a nursery, so the grounds are beautiful, with all kinds of plants and flowers out front (see picture). And surrounding the house one one side and across the street are some of the vines that make the Barossa famous. Judi and Lee cooked a delicious breakfast in the morning, including farm-fresh eggs. (He even had duck eggs, which we'd never tried before.)

Of course, the reason you're going to the Barossa in the first place is for the wine. There are more than 50 wineries in the area, so unless you're there for a few weeks, you won't be able to visit them all. Judi provided good recommendations of several cellar doors (some big, some small). She also recommended the restaurant "1918" in Tanunda, which had some excellent food. Also of interest in the area is the German heritage. There are 19th-century German churches all over the Barossa; four in Tanunda, and others in Bethany, Angaston, etc. We also enjoyed a lunch of mettwurst and sausages at the Wurst Haus in Tanunda.

You will want a car to explore the Barossa, but the area isn't too big so driving distances are short. It's probably a 7 minute drive from the B&B to either Tanunda or Nuriootpa, and there are probably 20 wineries within a 5-10 minute drive as well.

A final note: if booking, I would recommend contacting the property directly. There is a service called Getaways through which you can make your booking online, though they require full payment up front. We ended up needing to change our reservation (reducing the number of nights by one), and Getaways gave us unsatisfactory excuses as to why they couldn't help us change it and give us a partial refund (they had to go into the computer to make the change! Isn't that what you have a computer for?) However, Judi was very accommodating and gave us the refund directly.

In all, an excellent place to stay in the Barossa -- we just wish we could have stayed longer!
