Great food with a large variety. Overall good experience. Lovely waitress but not great knowledge of the menu, no idea about the compliments to certain dishes. Felt like we were annoying asking lots of questions, no steak knifes.

Amazing service! Fantastic food! A complete pleasure to dine at this restaurant. Menu has lots of options, everyone in our dining party ordered something different and none of us were disappointed. Food was wonderfully presented and cooked to perfection. Friendly staff, always smiling and very attentive. Everyone made us feel completely at home. Gorgeous location and the ambiance is nothing less than superb. Most definitely be a repeat customer and do not hesitate to recommend to both locals and visitors alike.

Wife and I were recomended char whilst away in the barossa for an anniversary getaway. So glad I took their advice!
The service staff were lovely and knowledgeable and very patient while we went through the menu and asked a lot of questions (my wife has specific dietary needs) which meant a lot to us especially with how busy it was.
We ordered dumplings and kingfish, both of which were incredible, followed by duck and king Henry pork chop.
We shared a brule for desert which I strongly recommend!

This restaurant experience was very poor. We would not have chosen to eat here had someone not have suggested it. We had considered it the night before but had gone elsewhere. Pity we didn't do so again the second time. I was wanting something light after a busy day. My go to is a Thai Beef Salad, so I am very familiar with this dish. What I received was Not a Thai Beef Salad. The dressing drenched over the salad tasted like it was ordinary salad dressing out of a squeeze bottle. There was no Thai anything about this dish. Not even a hint of spice or those tasty Thai flavours. It was bland. Basically a mountain - well a small hill actually - of green salad with a few beef strips hidden within. Also flavourless. No sign of tomato or capsicum or anything coloured other than green. No nuts to speak of - a good Thai salad has a good quarter cup of chopped nuts for texture. Occasionally some crispy noodles also for texture but these are optional. At $38 this dish promised much on paper and delivered so little on the plate. A comment to the waitress of my utter disappointnent initially went ignored or unheeded. A second approach yielded a higher authority coming to the table to try to defend this dish disaster, the indefensible. A somewhat prolonged discussion mid dining room about the qualities of the dish - the lack thereof - yielded no result. "What would you like me to do about it" is not an adequate response. Suggesting a healthy squeeze of Thai Chilli Sauce is also not what a diner wants to hear to rectify a failed dish. We got nowhere, cut short our meal, unfortunately our last in Tanunda, and left, wondering why we hadn't patronised a recommended restaurant further up the road. I suggest others contemplating this restaurant at the door keep walking. There are better experiences to be had elsewhere, especially if you are in the Barossa for a memorable time. Visiting this restaurant will put a dent in that. We won't be returning to Char on future visits to the area. Give this restauarant a Big Swerve.

We have been expecting your poor review, as promised by you prior to departing our venue. You clearly did not enjoy your dining experience at Char, and as much as we do our best to please all of the customers that dine with us, it was clear this was not going to be the case on this occasion.
Our team at Char take great pride in delivering a great experience to all of our guests and hold ourselves to a high standard of doing so, and to twist our words is not fair on our team who give their best every service. “A healthy squeeze of Thai chilli sauce” was not something that was or would be recommended to “fix” the forementioned issue. Adding to that, “what would you like me to do about it” has quite a different tone to it than “is there anything I can do about it” which is what was actually said. We do care about our guests experience, the food we provide and the service we offer, so we will always try to rectify anything that our guests feel may not have been up to their standards.
What was served was exactly what is stated on our menu: ‘THAI BEEF SALAD of premium chargrilled SA beef strips, cucumber, bean shoots, coriander, Vietnamese mint, peanuts & house made Thai dressing’. The dish includes 150grams of SA prime eye fillet, crushed peanuts and a dressing made in our kitchen (not from a bottle). Your complaints about the dish not being to your liking were referred by your waitress onto our Restaurant Manager, who personally addressed them with you. After hearing out all your negative comments you were offered another salad or even a completely different dish from our menu, to which you declined, and then proceeded to eat the remaining salad in its entirety.
Food is always subject to opinion, and it is completely fine to express that this particular dish was not to your liking. Your attitude towards our staff however was not appreciated.
Though be it not ours, we do hope you continue to support our region through your patronage of our fellow Barossa businesses and we wish you all the best for your future dining experiences.
