Weekend in Clare

4.0 of 5 bubblesReviewed 24 Nov 2021via mobile
Had a lovely weekend in the Clare Valley. Mintaro Hideaway was cute quaint and rustic. Suited us to a tee 😀. Walking distance to Mintaro Wines, the Magpie and Stump pub and O’Reillys.
Loved the hidden kitchen in the cupboard - fantastic use of space. The only possibile negative (not for us) is if you have mobility issues the step into the spa bath is quite large and the shower is over the spa.
Sue was lovely and very responsive. The keys were in a lock box so super easy to access property.
Close to lots of wineries- recommend Paulette, Tim Adams, Sevenhills, Skillogalee and Mr Micks.
And a bike ride (with an ebike) along the Riesling trail is a great way to spend a day(we hired for Clare Valley Cycle hire).

We stayed in the Jolly room for 2 nights. We were here 23yrs ago and it was ok then. But the lack of servicing that this place needs is big. We dont expect new and modern. The building charm is lovely. Its the fixtures that need replacing. The grounds are wanting tidy up to. And the Ldy that all 3 rooms use is that bad, its scary. Some of the things we noticed that need attention are: shower rose, rangehood, bathroom door needs re-sizing for carpet, curtains are really dirty, Dbl bed mattress is stuffed, exposed wiring in lounge light, toilet seat, and so on. Outside guttering is falling off, shrub pruning, verandahs tidied up to make presentable.
Overall we were disappointed is the premises. Real pity as we have good memories of this place from past.

Room tip: All rooms need repairs/updating now!

Lovely family weekend away how ever our cottage was very very out of date, heating in living area looks nice, but needs repairs to even heat the room, only a small heater in one room and no heating in the other. Air conditioner very dirty, curtains are hanging off the rods and very old, kitchenette cuboards had cobwebs / dust in them. Dirty tissues and empty body wash bottle in bedside draw, Electric blankets very old style and electrical cords plugged into double adaptors not safety power boards.
Court yard needs attention, uneven trip hazard grounds. Rubbish left from previous guests still in bin. Its a lovely place, but has been let go, needs a make over

Stayed here in June for two nights. Had difficulty accessing keys from locker and gained entry after some time. The lounge room was the pick of the rooms, with a lovely wood fire and great ambience and reverse cycle a.c for added warmth. Being of stone construction the warmth from the lounge did not extend to any other rooms and the bathroom and the kitchen were Artic cold. The t.v cupboard was full of dust and cobwebs as was the wardrobe in bedroom. Kitchen had a dirty scourer for cleaning dishes.. The new carpet on the floor in bedroom was nice but made it very hard to close door to bathroom. There was no additional heating for the bathroom, although one of the cupboards inventory said there was a fan heater which we could not locate. the shower rose was calcified up so only a trickle of warm water there. No blind at the window. No tea towels, oven mitt or tissues provided in tarriff. Details were emailed to owner. Also the fridge ceased working whilst we were there, but that was just unfortunate. Also main element on oven was not working. Overall, I think if we had stayed there when the temp was a bit warmer it may have been a more enjoyable experience. More attention to detail would have been nice.

We stayed in the Jollys Rest self contained unit. It was clean, spacious and comfortable and had everything we wanted for our 3 day visit. The township of Mintaro is very cute and the local pub has been renovated and is tremendous. Their restaurant is full of people at nights. It's great just to go for a walk or for short drives to everything else in the Clare valley. A top place for a holiday.

We recently stayed in the Scholar room which is tucked away at the back of the property. Although there are 2 other rooms let out on the property we didnt see or hear anyone. It was very quiet and peaceful. It has a beautiful court yard in the garden set up with table and chairs. The kids really loved looking at the old tools and swimming in the bath.
It is a beautiful old property, with old fashioned friendly service. I would definitely stay again.
