We (husband and I) stayed 2 nights at the Oasis Caravan Park and Motel in Marree as part of a self driving trip to Lake Eyre.
We booked our room by phone a couple of weeks prior, but on arrival (early in the day, fortunately) they had no record of us. Despite that, our welcome was warm & friendly and we were shown to a room to settle in. To call it a motel is a bit of a stretch - it's a caravan park with several dongas as rooms, managed in conjunction with the roadhouse / supermarket a 5 minute walk away the other side of town.
We were given plenty of information when we arrived about scenic flights (which we had also pre-booked) and meals available at the caravan park or roadhouse.
Our room was spotless - very comfortable double bed and single as well, fridge and small side table with TV. A couple of chairs outside (which had seen better days), but nice to sit outside and watch the sunset and chat with neighbours. The bathroom small & functional & spotless. There is a small bar heater above the bed which we were very glad of, and also a small aircon unit which we didn't need to use. There are tea & coffee facilities in the room but no cooking facilities, so if you plan to self cater you will need your own equipment for cooking.
There is a communal camp fire area where a set meal is served each evening and we enjoyed the opportunity to chat with other travellers. We opted to wander across to the roadhouse for dinner and had a very nice grilled fish with salad & veggies for about $20, chosen form a menu selctio of about 10 or 12 items. Whilst there we noticed the reason for not having a room booked - there are 2 books for reservations, one at the roadhouse and one at the caravan park and our details were in the roadhouse book and had obviously not been transferred across. We encountered a number of different staff at the roadhouse over our 2 days and all were friendly and helpful.
Our 2nd night we walked the few minutes to the pub and had their $25 buffet.
Breakfast is included in the room rate and is in the fridge - individual packets of cereal, milk & fruit drink, along with a large bottle of water. Best to be self sufficient in Marree as the roadhouse stocks are limited - particularly for fruit & veg.
We're planning another outback trip next year and would be quite happy to stay here again. And would highly recommend making the trip to see Lake Eyre and taking the scenic flight.
