Homely

3.0 of 5 bubblesReviewed 21 Aug 2018via mobile
Abbotsford house reminded me of going home to your mothers or grandmothers. Comfortable but slightly old-fashioned. Cosy but not 100% clean and tidy. A few cobwebs a bit of dust and A few repairs needed to be done.
This was not a four-star 4 to5 star hotel experience. It was more a homely stay in somebody’s home. You are made to feel welcome and the food was tasty.

A nice experience but nothing exceptional.

Abbotsford Country House was a great place to spend the weekend in the Barossa. Jane cooked us some wonderful breakfasts. Julian was a gracious host and the facilities were excellent. Loved spending time with good friends in the communal room by the fire place. Would definitely come back here next time I visit the Barossa. Julian and Jane have a fantastic place here and run the place extremely well. The view alone is worth staying for. Do yourself a favour and stay here.

After years of making bookings and traveling my husband and I were so disappointed by this property. We made an honest mistake on a 3 night booking, we immediately rang Julian to advise him of our mistake. We also rang Expedia and explained our mistake to them- all within 10 minutes of booking. Julian knew we were making other booking arrangements, based on HIS recommendations. He still proceeded to charge our credited card, on the day of our MISTAKEN booking. So my husband and I travelled out and visited him. We asked, as Expedia did, if he would consider just charging us for one night as a penalty (even though he knew within 5 minutes of our initial booking that we had made a mistake) - unfortunately he has declined this option and has charged us in full, for 3 nights $832, even though he knew from the start we were not coming. Expedia has gone all they can, they’ve logged attempted phone calls but Julian refuses to answer the phone. Julian will tell you it’s Expedia, their fault, they’re to blame- that is untrue. Expedia, have tried their very best to help us. Immoral and vagabond behavior.

We just got back from 3 nights at Abbortsford where we got to totally relax and unwind. Our lovely suite was perfect - with the most tasty complimentary port and we loved that there was no tv in the room.
Janes breakfasts were just amazing... be prepared to put on a few extra lbs!
The views are wonderful and I loved waking up to the sound of cows! It’s a great location to explore the Barossa.
No faults found at Abbortsford & such wonderful hosts! Thank you both.

Beautiful place to just chill out, enjoy the Barossa landscape, have a glass of wine and great food. Delightful hosts, comfortable room and shared homestead facilities. Loved the communal breakfast conversation and open honesty bar policy. Great place to stay as a base while you spend a few days exploring the Barossa. Highly recommend - thanks Julian & Jane for a wonderful stay.

Waking up at Abbotsford in your well appointed suite you may be unprepared for the glorious view outside. Acres of gorgeous vineyards, grapes ripening in the sun across a broad swath of this beautiful valley. The feast for the eyes is followed by a sumptuous breakfast in the main house. Jane and Julian are excellent hosts, friendly and helpful. (Note to Julian: Get your son to help improve your barista skills, mate). Great location, handy to restaurants and wineries, while affording peaceful solitude.
