Great experience

5.0 of 5 bubblesReviewed 17 June 2021via mobile
Last minute booking for 16 people for lunch was no trouble for the staff. We were located in a nice large dining room that was warm and inviting. Meals were great, reasonably priced and great local wine options. Well worth the visit and highly recommended.

We checked into the Standard room this week. It took us some to gather our words to describe the state of the accommodation. Firstly, the corridor to our room was covered in very old carpet which was heavily soiled. As a consequence, the carpet perfumed the corridor with the smell of mixed tabacco, alcohol and wet dog. I had to hold my breath each time we walked to our room. The room was tiny and there was no door to the bathroom!!! Imagine staying at this place as a new couple or with a friend?!?!? We were expecting to be greeted by a lovely airy room as depicted in the photos though we realised that the photos referred to their premium rooms in the new establishment which is separate to the pub. I have stayed at many establishments worldwide and backpackers with multi occupants have better facilities that this room. The bed was terrible. Both my husband and I ended up with very sore backs and I barely slept both nights. My hiking mat would have been better than this mattress. Breakfast was also marketed as being included and this included two cereal swatches and two pieces of white bread and milk. This experience put a downer on our Clare Valley experience and we could not wait to leave. If we had the opportunity, we would have paid for an upgrade though their premium rooms were fully booked. Sadly, we cannot recommend the standard room, though you might have a better experience staying in the adjoining rooms. Although we paid $100 a night, a decent mattress and door for the bathroom would go a long way. The shower pressure and hot water supply was very good. I expected budget but this was far from budget.

Gee don't you just love faceless coward people who don't have the courage to come up at the time and tell us their concerns but would rather grossly exergerate the issue that may concern them and then go to social media ? Yes we remember you . You told us that your husband was a Doctor and you wanted the best room . We told you that all the Superior Muse rooms were booked out but if you wanted the Executive Muse room that was available you could have that one but you were not prepared to pay the extra $60 .00 and expected us to give it to you at the same price as our hotel room . Are you truely serious ? Your accusations that the carpet was soiled etc etc etc is just total rubbish .We do not allow smoking or animals in the hotel and if there was an alcohol smell hello it is a hotel . I really doubt your husband is a doctor if you are back tracking and only ever want to stay in budget accomodation .Maybe he is a Witch doctor ?

This was such an amazing meal to have. The menu has changed or upgraded. We had the risotto mushrooms, kangaroo with beetroot walnut and goats cheese we added a vegetable side. As you can see with the photos the presentation and flavours are amazing. You will enjoy

Stayed one night in room in main building. Food was ok and staff friendly and helpful.

Room worse than the photo suggests. Ensuite with no door (ie a converted normal small room), saggy double bed and dirty cutlery with the in room DIY breakfast. Hot water took over 5 minutes to arrive.

        Bathroom signage interesting.

        Cost $100. Would not recommend.

We stayed two nights in the Executive Muse room, and ate twice at the hotel.
Food and service in the restaurant were wonderful, faultless really. The young lady assisting us should be given a raise, she was so friendly and hard working.
The mushroom arrancini balls, seafood curry and marinated prawns were beautifully cooked with subtle flavours, the chef definitely knows what he/she is doing.

I wish we’d loved the room as much. Understanding that this is a hotel, I’d asked for a quiet room, but unfortunately it was probably the noisiest room I’ve stayed in in over 10 years.

I didn’t realise that there is only one of these room types, and it fronted directly onto the main road, so there was constant traffic noise from 6am till 10pm. Then trucks thundering by every few minutes at all hours. My earplugs didn’t quite cut it. The saggy bed and flat pillows didn’t help either. The room aesthetic was I guess colonial, but it was a bit more shabby than chic. Cute on entry, but could definitely do with a bit of $ invested to bring it up to today’s standards. And no wifi was also a bit of a bummer.

It was clean though, and we did enjoy the fireplace, complimentary port (yummy) and continental breakfast.

Would definitely recommend the hotel, just not the Executive room.

Meals were fantastic and large serves. Reasonable wait from order time to receiving food but this was well worth the wait.
2 Coeliacs with us. Huge selection for them, dedicated fryer, freshly crumbed GF schnitzels.
