I absolutely love this area. It was my first eye opener to the Northern Territory. What certainly recommend the Park and the whole of the Limmen area for any adventure tourist

Limmen is a relatively newly declared National Park. There is still some feral cattle/ buffalo wandering around but never the less , the Park is so large that there is ample space here that you would not necessarily meet up with these animals. There is a huge range of different landscapes - from wooded areas to sand. From flat plains ti quite hilly ranges and lots of rivers , some flowing but most not ate this time of the year.
This was part of our trip along a back road and we really enjoyed the beautiful countryside we drove thru.. The characters we met - a road maintenance crew were great even spending time to chat as they had a break for the day.
I passed through Limmen National Park on my motorcycle and was disappointed not to have more time to spend there (I had lost time due to a mechanical issue near Borroloola).
It was, however, a stunning drive through wild bushland, with red rock formations, dry rivers beds (or very shallow crossings) and plenty of flora to keep nature-lovers and photographers interested. I spent the night at the Towns River campsite, which is maintained by Parks NT. This is a lovely spot, though you'll need to bring your own water and there are not showers. Sunrise over the river is a beautiful way to start the day, but don't be tempted to swim, for estuarine crocodiles live in this river!
Took awhile to get there, but an amazing place, you want to experience the OUTBACK this is the place, a working cattle station , but gearing up now for tourists of all sorts, 4 x 4, caravans, all terrain tour buses, (we were with Outback Spirit Tours,) great warm springs, outdoor eating with a huge fire pit, the nights get a bit cold, we were following in the footsteps of the explorer Leighhardt, accommodation is mixed but certainly comfortable, we then travelled thru the area to Butterfly Springs, helicoptored over the area, vast and dry at present but an awesome sight.
We travelled through Limmen in Sept 2014. It has some lovely spots such as Butterfly Springs and of course the Lost City. We visited the southern section and did the walk around it. The rock formations are weird and wonderful. They look like elongated versions of the domes found in the Bungle Bungle. We didn't visit the Western Section as time was against us and you need to visit the Rangers station to get the gate for it - sadly time was against us. Very remote, stunning so visit now before it all becomes as popular as the more accessible parks in WA and NT.
