Small disappointments add up to bland experience

2.0 of 5 bubblesReviewed 16 July 2023
The setting was beautiful, sunrise on the beach breathtaking. Villa #9 average. An ironing board but no iron. Not a single box of tissues anywhere. No salt or pepper in the kitchen. A closet devoid of hangers. Spent $249.00 for one night and neither of the 2 bathrooms had a hair dryer. The Seahorse Inn boldly promotes “luxury” but failed to deliver on the simple basics. Restaurant food was fine albeit expensive $82 for a bowl of soup and a plate of pasta.
The ‘new’ renovations are fine but regrettably the heritage/character of the original building was covered with multiple coats off-white paint. My partner and I were here pre-Covid and we were so looking forward to this visit… but sadly now there’s no need for us to return

The Seahorse Inn is on a wonderful location and our bedroom was attractive with a good bathroom. Staff were friendly and very helpful and the food was good. Here’s some suggestions aimed at raising it from average to excellent:
1. Serve breakfast in the restaurant not in the bedroom. Our bedroom was small and to eat breakfast we moved the balcony table and chairs inside (it was too cold to sit outside).
2. Install fireplaces (even fake ones!) in the upstairs ‘snug’ and in the fireplaces between the bar and shop.
3. Add some seating to the bar area - it’s sparsely furnished with barstools and a few tables and chairs. Could easily be a attractive English style pub area with a few more seats and heating!
3. Add some cushions to the chairs in the public areas. Nice looking chairs but not cosy!
4. Get rid of the shop and turn it into a breakfast room.
5. Put a heat lock / nice glass doors between the front door and the lobby and heat the lobby. It’s cold and sterile looking.
6. Whose idea was it to block the view from the ground floor to Twofold Bay with he wedding venue infrastructure? Would have been better to run this out the side of the Inn towards/onto the tennis courts.
7. Get some appropriate (coastal-scenic-indigenous) artwork for all the public areas. Move the photos of the previous owners to one location, possibly with more photos of the inn and its history?
8. Improve the signage in the restaurant. Current signage looks cheap and like a cafeteria and the food is better than that.

Room tip: If visiting in winter be prepared for the cold. Public areas are not adequately heated.

We have stayed here before in the rooms with the balcony and ocean views. Not only are the views spectacular but my husband and I have found the staff extremely friendly, helpful and accommodating. We always feel comfortable and at home. The rooms are sizeable, beds comfortable and meals hearty and affordable. We will be back again.

Lovely room (#5) and superb beach out the back - basically an unexpectedly great place as unsure of Eden (was told ‘boys fishing town’) so stopped here en route to Sydney from Melbourne - also ate here tonight and food was really decent too and decent ‘house’ pinot noir - really recommend.

The views of Twofold Bay defy description. The restaurant serves the best lobster mornay. Kane and Shannon are the talented waiting staff who know exactly how and when to be there or not. The entire area is overflowing with things to do and see.

Room tip: You will have to get used to walking on a pristine beach all by yourself. Visiting unbelievable places with no crowds or crush.
