After an impressive stay several years ago we returned for 3 nights to break up a 18 day stay in Morocco.
We arrived about 3pm with our two year old & were not able to get into the room & put her to bed until 8pm. Lunch had finished & dinner was not served until 7.30. The waiter was sympathetic & organised a plate of biscuits for our daughter as there is no where else to go without organising a taxi or a long trek. We are well travelled & calm but no explanation was given for the delay so we felt we had to keep checking. They didn't seem able to cope & frankly that's how things stayed. The staff are doing their very best, there are not enough of them & they seem to be muddling through with no direction or management.
Breakfast was lovely & so relaxing in a beautiful courtyard, all that space, all those flowers, it's divine to sit & take your time.
Due to its remote location you are stuck with meals there & it's not exciting except for my vegetable crudités which was odd being a mix of vegetables in a basket complete with whole carrots & potatoes with peeler & knife. No chopping board & not a fan of raw potatoes but I enjoyed the more conventional items with bread & alioli. Otherwise meals were mediocre.
Getting drinks & menus was comically challenging. Often we were told we couldn't have the beers we could physically see as they were for guests coming for lunch the next day. Found a wine we really liked & the next day that was for lunch guests too. There is no one manning the bar so getting any drinks means locating a hard working waiter. We were not even allowed to see the evening menu until 7.30 & I'd hoped to have it & order promptly as it's quite late for our toddler to eat. We upset conventions by asking to eat on the terrace bar but as Moroccans seem naturally inclined to be hospitable they managed it. Other guests wanted to do the same, it was such a beautiful terrace it invites casual dining, tapas or snacks.
Our room was spacious with comfortable beds, modern bathroom with power shower & bath. Lots of space & storage & walks out onto a large shared balcony. We appreciated the patio furniture & did sit & play backgammon.
The grounds are huge & beautifully, it's really enjoyable walking around the gardens & I felt very relaxed just underfed & watered.
It's apparent there's been a lack of investment in property maintenance & staffing. They are relying on a lack of hotel choice in the area & visiting lunchtime guests are more important than residents. This place could be a goldmine, it needs a little more love & care. More staff needed, training & investment in them. A manned bar, drinks offered & a small casual all day snack menu would be appreciated please.

Relax in individual type bungalows scattered in amazing gardens. Enchanting moroccan style to public rooms and terraces, beautifully lit with lamps and fire pits at nighttime.
Moroccan salads excellent. Breakfast a real treat with fresh baked goodies.

This was a base for use while we explored the local area. The rooms were spacious, clean and comfortable. The staff were always friendly and attentive. The food was always fresh and very good quality. We never had to question it once. The gardens are vast and really draw you in to sit with a book and forget about the world!
I will be back in April'18 for another visit!!!!

This hotel has been developed since 1944 so you can expect wonderfully mature gardens, especially the variety of roses, and colonial terraces , all kept in pristine condition. Memories of sitting out on the warm and sumptuous terrace prior to evening meals by the pool will last for a very long time. If you like to experience peace and tranquillity in an oasis then this is highly recommended, however.........
Unless you have your own transport then effectively you are tied in to the meals and refreshments (and prices) provided by the hotel (there is hardly any competition within the region). Having found ourselves in this situation we found the food and drinks to be reasonable but nothing to write home about. The location and friendly staff made up for any shortfall.
Our apartment was very peaceful and spacious ( most rooms appeared to be secluded apartments within the lovely gardens). We have never slept in such a large bed (2 x 4 foot beds attached to make a double). Don't bother to take your own soft pillow - They come as part of the package !
Other than a board in the Reception there is no information about local activities e.g walks , attractions etc. Having said this it didn't take us long to find via Reception a local guide who accompanied us on two memorable walks in the mountains and through Berber Villages during our three day stay.
The Spa was good too. We both enjoyed our first Hammam and massage experience as a couple which came as a welcome relaxation after a several hours walking in the mountains. After a few days in Marakech this was heavenly relaxation prior to returning to England.

Room Tip: They are all in quiet locations
