We're regulars at ohi properties and all are clean comfortable and cozy. Morningstar is a wonderful home that is kept up and is close to everything on the island that is worth being close to. We ll be back later this year to try out first winter getaway on Ocracoke. Thanks Byron!
We happened on this lovely cottage when we had a bad experience with another lodging. It is one of several cottages, plus an inn, owned by Byron Miller of Ocracoke. It is a 1930s craftsman cottage he has carefully restored, and it is simply lovely. It was incredibly clean, it had new upholstery on the couch and loveseat, the kitchen was fully equipped, the hardwood floors clean enough to eat off of. This is not always the case on Ocracoke, sadly. The cottage has three bedrooms, two of them upstairs, and two full baths, one of them also upstairs. There is no real view, it is on a backstreet in the village, but it has a lovely yard with big trees and flowering bushes. A front porch to sit on and watch the world go by, and a screened back porch with a breakfast table and chairs. There is a terrace, too, with Adirondack chairs. In addition to the living room with television (lots of televisions in this house!), there is a "Florida Room" at the back furnished also for TV viewing. We will definitely book from this owner again; he does the job right. We happened to drive by some of his other properties, and they all look great. Ocracoke is generally a "shabby chic" little village, and sometimes the accent is on the "shabby." But this cottage had only fully restored retro charm.
