Got a personal tour from one of the ladies working there and she had a wealth of information on the area and on the items on display at the museum. Very impressive.

Well done displays of history of the county. Material and artifacts are quality, and well laid out and described. See the model train layout too.

We got so much more from this visit than we expected! The building is basically original and very beautiful. We met a retired judge, a Vietnam vet, who owns much of the military collection which spans from the Civil War to Desert Storm. (We took his picture). There is an old picture of a log cabin which is thought to be the oldest home in Henderson County. We met a lady who has lived in that cabin since the day she was born in it. Our tour guide was a life-long resident whose family owned the first inn in the city. He spoke of how he and his friends would jump on the local freight train, ride into town and then jump off once it was in town. Did I mention it's a freebie? Don't miss this one. Who knows whom you'll meet there?

My husband and I have been to this museum in the Courthouse, which shows a wonderful depiction of life during the Revolutionary War and Civil War and in 1979, it was placed on the National Register of Historic Places.

But there are important monuments around the side of the building that should not be overlooked. They are dedicated to citizens of Henderson County who gave their lives during WWI, WW2, Korean War, Vietnam War, Spanish American War, Gulf War, Afghanistan, Iraq and all other US military involvement where lives were lost.

I didn't realize these were here when my husband and I came to visit the museum the first time. It was nice to make this visit.
