We have stayed at the Captains Quarters Inn many times and have always enjoyed the experience. The rooms are comfortable, the breakfasts outstanding, the owners, Don and Diane, friendly and courteous.

Room Tip: Best rooms in rear of house.

Our visit to The Captain's Quarters Inn was very pleasant. The house is a rambling gracious structure on a historic street. We got a friendly welcome from Don, the innkeeper. Apparently he's also an award-winning barbecue chef, although we only heard about that, having arrived far too late in the day; but another couple raved about how good it was.

Our room and bath were spacious and sparkling clean. It was decorated very simply in cool colors, which did not convey the same warmth as some other inns, but was a nice contrast to the humidity outside. Only oddity was that you had to go outside to get from the upstairs where our room was located to downstairs where you checked in and breakfast was served. (It was notable for being different, not an inconvenience.) On the other hand, the in-and-out route offered an opportunity to linger on the luxurious porch. Thicker towels would have been nice. (Our Inn the prior night has some very nice spa-like touches, such as robes, slippers and thick towels, so my review reflects the contrast). The inn was quiet until early morning when other guests started moving around and the creaking floorboards woke me up.

Breakfast was delicious and plentiful. The biscuits practically floated, the fruit buffet included fresh figs and the innkeepers were able to accommodate my vegetarian diet with scrambled eggs in lieu of the frittata served to others.

The Inn is in easy walking distance to the downtown area and the waterfront.

Overall, a lovely place and I wouldn't hesitate to recommend it.

We had never been in Edenton before, and we were not sure how this B&B would be.
We were pleasantly surprised. It is a lovely old home. There really wasn't much interaction with the owners. They were out of site most of the time.
The parking is in the rear of the home, on a gravel drive area. It was a bit difficult trying to roll our suitcases on the gravel. My husband ended up having to carry each heavy suitcase to where there was a wood walkway ramp up onto the porch. And then reverse the process when we were leaving.
So then you follow the wood walk onto the large porch and walk around to the front. We went in the front door to check in at a front desk area and receive a room key. We were able to see the nice sitting and dining areas from there.
Then we went out the front door to another door at the end of the porch. It was exposed to the windy, rainy weather, so keep mindful of weather conditions. That door opened to a staircase that led upstairs. So then my husband had the challenge of getting each suitcase up to the top of the stairs. It was a bit awkward.
Once that was accomplished, we located our room. It was called Blackbeard the Pirate's Room. It was a nice, spacious room, clean and comfortable, with a nice size bathroom. The bed was very comfortable.
We were able to have a very nice breakfast in the morning before we left. It was a quaint dining area. We visited briefly with 2 other couples who were also guests there.
All in all, it was a nice place to stay. We would definitely consider staying there again, if ever we are back in the town.

We had a lovely room with an awesome bathroom! Loved the huge new bathtub. It was a great place to relax after touring the historic town of Edenton, NC. We stayed on the second floor. Anyone who has trouble climbing stairs should choose a room on the first floor.

Room Tip: People who have trouble climbing stairs should choose a room on the first floor.

Just had three nights here in June with friends as part of a USA road trip. It is a lovely home and we felt very welcome. The rooms are themed and the building is very authentic. We had a four poster bed which was extremely comfortable and the temperature of the rooms was excellent due to central A/C. It was great not to have a noisy machine going all night. The breakfasts were very good and they catered for my gluten free friend. Coffee was delivered on the landing every morning at 7 if you wanted it and there was always iced water and lemonade available. We just missed being able to get a hot drink in the evening. Edenton is a great place to visit. Lots to do and see. The harbour front is beautiful and we took an hours boat trip which was really informative. My husband's highlight was seeing an osprey on its nest. Would also recommend the Penelope Barker house. The guides there are very good.
